A girlfriend of mines wants a parrot and her birthday is coming up in october. i would love to satisfy her and get her what she wants, she wants a talking parrot. anyone know where to shop for one? i live in new york if that helps. how much do they go for?
Answers:
Depends on the type of parrot you want and how much you want it to talk. We have an African Grey that cost around 1200.00 from a place in Massachusetts as a baby. You will need to teach it to talk. It will also live for 35 yrs. or more.
Ours will call my name, my husbands name, the dog, it will tell the dog, no!, stay, sit, good boy, bad dog! and that's just the top of the barrel. He will say "shut up maggie" (his name) then "shut up kev" (my husband) and "shut up denise" (me). It's pretty funny listening to him mix it up. He can also be annoying because he will be LOUD. Sometimes we can't get him to stop talking. He picks up everything he hears, and he learns things FAST . This is a breed that will talk A LOT. Other breeds not as much. When we bought him I wanted a talker, and thats what we got.
If you're going to get one I would recommend getting one from somewhere reputable that will let you check out the bird first.

They go For a lot of money, i mean ALOT
parrots arent hard to buy at all you can see them at petsmart or any other pet store. but the talking part is a little harder because after you buy it the bird has to be comfortable with living with you and not afraid. then it should start to talk ohh yeah and they cost around 400 to 500 dollars but they can sometimes run up to 800$. they're pricey
