Baby Rabbit- Any really cheap toys, or ideas for toys?

I just got an 8 week old netherland dwarf bunny- I want to get him lots of toys to switch them out, any ideas on REALLY cheap ones that are safe? Any other tips on raising a baby bunny would be helpful too :)
Answers:
I have 3 bunnies.
They all have toys!
I give them baby toys and toys especially made for rabbits from pet shops.
If you go to 2nd hand stores they have bags filled with baby toys that you can wash and give to your bunny.
Boxes and pieces of cardboard are great fun for your bunny.
I have a huge rabbit run filled with Baby toys, Rabbit toys, Boxes, pieces of cardboard rolled up into tunnels, cat balls with a bell and one of their fave treats in and wooden block from pet shops.
I hope i helped! 鈾?
It's your pet and you want to buy the cheapest toys? Lovely owner.
a rabbit run would be ok as for toys they arnt to interested
a mirrow would be ok make sure you clean hutch regulary
and lay sawdust and plenty of hay and clean water regulary
they eat a variety of veg as you may know they like gnawing on apple branches you can also find many titbits in pet stores take to vet on regular basis for nail trim once bunny is used to you and happy for you to pick up he/she wil eventually take food from hand mine dose (minstral) cause she's black and white lol
good luck on bunny training and keeping
oh if yours is male a good name would be starsky-in-hutch
I have a bunny too :]
umm some toys I have for her in her cage are like little cat toys actually. you know the plastic thingies with a little bell inside?
she likes to roll those around.
it's cute :]
they are pretty cheap, so i'd suggest buying one or two and seeing how he likes them.
Go to Petsmart or someplace similar and you'll see rabbit toys. There are little wooden blocks that they can throw around, and you can also buy some that hang from the top of the cage. Some people stuff timothy hay through an empty toilet paper or paper towel roll. Our bunnies just like to throw around their plastic food dishes ... they seem to enjoy that more than their toys!
We just placed a ND bunny with a nice family, and they bought her a bunny baseball that she loves to play with. Just make sure you don't give her something she could eat that would not be safe (like balls with squeakies).
haha. i used to have a bunny when i was younger.. and yea.. i always wanted the cheap stuff, cuz i had no money.. but i made due.. some good ones are

take a paper towel roll.. and fill it with some hay or lettuce or other veggies.. kept my rabbit busy for hours.
cat toys.. like the jingle balls.. my rabbit loved those, lol
also a simple baby blanket or small towel.. idk.. but my rabbit seemd obsessed with 'organizing' it all of the time.. balling it up.. spreading it out.. whatever. lol
also thinges that they can pick up and throw.. like plastic (hard plastic.. not like the paper stuff) cups.. small ones.. my rabbit would toss those across the room.
a paper bag was also a favorite..
or a cardboard box
i never tried this.. but ive heard of ppl taking old phone books.. and placing it under a table leg so the rabbit could tear and chew and what not..

hoped some of these helped
a chew stick and a big plastic ball for it to run around in.
I have 2 rabbit's right now, I think I've had about 10!! their a lot of fun!! fill a paper towel roll with some hay or lettuce it keeps them busy! ummm i usually make my own toy's! Hope I help'd!!

Baby hedgehogs?

anybody know how to look after baby hedgehogs
help please
Answers:
If you've got a garden, hedgehogs are useful visitors. They will eat slugs, beetles, caterpillars and a variety of other insects.
To attract hedgehogs to your garden you can try providing natural shelter - 'wild' areas - or man-made - a piece of board against a pile of bricks to form a type of bivouac.
Food and fresh water at any time of the year will encourage visiting hedgehogs to return regularly. You could try leaving out minced meat, fresh liver, tinned dog food (not fish-based), or even scrambled eggs.
Hedgehogs like milk but it may give youngsters severe diarrhoea. So it's safest to use either goats' milk or very diluted cows' milk. But the best choice is plain, fresh water each night in a shallow bowl.
Garden dangers

Garden ponds can be death traps to small animals - make sure there is always an easy way out. House brick steps or wire mesh are often used.

Strimmers should be used sparingly under hedges and undergrowth - hedgehogs and other animals are likely to be resting there during the day.

Drains and similar open holes frequently trap unwary hedgehogs, which can starve if they are not rescued. Keep all drain covers in good condition and cover any holes.

Litter is a real hazard - hedgehogs often get their heads stuck in tins, plastic binders from drinks cans or discarded yogurt pots. Dispose of yours carefully.

Nets, particulary those used for tennis, football or cricket, must be furled well above ground when not in use - hedgehogs often get entangled and die of starvation. Fruit nets are also dangerous but can be kept taut to stop animals getting entangled.

Slug pellets can poison hedgehogs and should only be used as a last resort. Instead, try using beer traps, or sprinkling fine sand or ground-up shells around the plant you need to protect. If you have to use slug pellets, place them under a slate.
Hibernating hedgehogs
Hedgehogs hibernate between November and mid-March. Try to keep aside a hedgehog-friendly area of garden where you can leave welcome heaps of leaves and brushwood. If you have to light a bonfire, always make sure there are no animals sheltering in the middle of the pile.
Autumn orphans
Hedgehogs born late in the season will not have sufficient fat reserves to survive hibernation. Young orphans found weighing less than 500g (1.1lb) at the end of the autumn will need to put weight on to see them through the winter or, if left, will probably die.
Orphans found weighing under 500g after mid-October can be housed indoors and fed two heaped tablespoons of food daily - including small amounts of crushed dog biscuits to provide bulk and roughage - to put on weight before being released to hibernate.
A garage or similar building is an ideal temporary home, but don't put hedgehogs on a metal grid or wire floor - they have sensitive feet! Place the hedgehog in a large box with plenty of clean, fresh hay, crumpled newspapers or dry leaves.
If the orphan is very young it should be kept warm - a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel is ideal. Also take care to keep direct human contact to a minimum so that the animal does not become unnaturally tame.
On reaching a weight of between 550 and 680g (1.2lb-1.5lb), the young hedgehog - if active and while the weather is still relatively mild - can be released at night back to the area where it was found.
If an alternative release site is required, select an area where there are invertebrates, no potential hazards and signs of other hedgehogs being active in the local area. Continue to provide food and a shelter with nesting material to help the hedgehog build a winter nest.
This link will tell you everything you need to know from housing to food - happy hedging!

Baby guinea.. again?

my baby piggie Bella shakes when she purrs. is this normal? i know shes purring, i went to a site that had clips of guinea pigs sqeaking, purring, chutting, e.t.c.
Answers:
hahaha.. yes.. totaly normal! She must love you!
Yes, this is normal. The sounds guinea pigs make make it feel like they are shaking. As long as the sound is purring then you're fine :)
One of my girls crawls and squeaks at the same time, I call it commando crawling. Stop worrying about your guinea pigs, they are absolutely fine!! To some first time owners the sounds that guinea pigs make come as a shock, with time you will learn what each guinea pig wants and understand their squeaks.

Baby Guinea Pigs...?

My guinea pig had 3 babies but is neglecting one...can anybody give me any info, should I intervene or leave well alone.
Answers:
IT is possible to hand rear guinea pigs, I have done it twice, both times the mother had died. I was recommended to give them Complan (the plain one not flavoured). I got a little bottle and they sucked from it. Guinea pigs will also nibble on food from very small. What i did was got a small cage and put sawdust and hay in the bottom. Put in a little bowl with food in and another one with the complan in, it will prob walk in it but will then lick the stuff off its feet. Also give it a bottle that you normally put water in and put some complan in it too. You will need to feed it from a bottle cos it will only pick at the stuff in the cage. As someone else has mentioned sometimes the mother will not feed a baby that she knows is not strong but this does not necessarily mean the baby could not survive, if the mother is not very strong she will pick the strongest babies and raise them so she is not worn out. Quite honestly I think you should give it a try, if you dont succeed at leat you will have tried and if you do you'll feel wonderful, I know i did :). And in answer to someone else guinea pigs have any amount of babies from 1 one. One of mine had seven once, which was very unusual, they were very small but they all survived except two but they were born dead. Anyway enuff waffling, good luck xx.
if shes not feeding him/her then you will need to - i think its kitten milk but not 100% sure - i would contact your vet today
Is there anything wrong with the one being neglected? There very well might be, animals have a better sense of this than we do. I've seen it many times with rabbits, especially one case where the mother actually chewed off a kit's ear and two of it's feet. We thought the mother had gone nuts and raised this one on a bottle... turns out the thing was constantly sick, not right in the head, and died an early death. You can keep nudging the kit towards the mother, or try an raise it yourself. Just accept the fact that the chance of it dying is really high.
i would take the baby away and hand rear..i had to do this with 5 babies after the mother died giving birth ...but sadly lost all 5 a few days later , i would bring him in and put him in an indoor cage or a large cardboard box lined with straw and hay so he is warm , call your vet explain whats happened and say you need a milk supplement as you are having to hand rear, i cant for the life of me remember the name of the milk i had to use and that was from the vet it didnt cost much , also ask for a syringe so its easier to give the milk, you need to give SMALL ammounts ,say 2ml, every hour , and unfortunatley that will include nite feeds , if you give too much at once you will cause his tummy to explode and theres nowt worse than an exploding guinea pig : ) . then as he gets stronger you can up the ammount to 3ml every 2 hours . but call the vet , explain whats happened and go from there xx
I don't think that you need to take them away at all.
How is the mum neglecting them? How old are they?
She will not intentionally hurt the babies, guinea pigs dint do that!
You should be weighing your babies every 4-5 days to check they are gaining.
The babies will be eating dried food after a couple of hours, but will still need some help from you.
Try taking the other two babies away from the mum for about 15 mins and giving the other one a chance, the mum only milks from 2 teats (i think) so if there are 3 there is going to be one left out.and yes you can pick babies up as soon as they are born, the mum wont mind :)
You can feed veg organic baby food.bread dipped in evaporated milk, or yes you can use puppy milk, but I think that's a wasted expense to be honest...
This forum; www.guineapigforum.eamped.com is great for advice and people that have lots of experience and can give you tips!
It's not usual for guinea pigs to have three babies. I think they usually only have two - they only have two teats.
It's up to you as to whether you wish to hand rear the neglected one. Perhaps there's something wrong with it and the mother is just concentrating on the other two.
Take it to your vet and find out what to do - if it's healthy and how to hand rear it.

Baby ducks?

Does anyone know where i can get a baby duck in ohio?
Answers:
Do you have any feed stores close to you?
Ducklings are a seasonal kind of animal when they're up for sale; they're sold mostly in the spring months, and perhaps in the summer for a little bit if you're lucky.
Anyway, sometimes feed stores carry catalogs that you can look through that have contact information for breeders of different kinds of ducks. You can contact the breeder and specify the amount of ducklings you want to purchase, and they'll be shipped to you.
Another option is to go the adoption route. It's pretty rare, but sometimes shelters will pick up ducks/ducklings from homes that can't care for them.
Go to http://www.petfinder.com to search for shelters in your area, and see if they carry any fowl for adoption...
If there is a Tractor Supply Company anywhere near you, they get baby ducks in sometimes.
Our local feed mill sells them in the spring. If you lived close by I could give you one. My husband and I hand raised one last year. Mama kicked the egg out of the nest. We removed the egg from around the baby. He was barely breathing and we figured that by morning he would be dead. We gave him some mash and water mixed in an eye dropper and put him to bed in a box with some old flannel. Didn't think to put a light for warmth in the box and was so happy the next morning when we heard this LOUD peeping(sounded like screams to me).
He stayed in the house at night (in a box) and we sat with him during the day. One of us was always with him during the day. I'd put an old towel on my lap while watching tv and my cat and the duck would both lay on my lap. We even took him along with us to fish at the river.
At 6 weeks we put him out in the pen with his Mama and siblings. People told me that he would never be accepted by his family but he proved everyone wrong. he not only was accepted but now rules the pen.
He follows me everywhere and walks to the mailbox with me. Recently when he couldn't find his best friend (another duck that's the love of his life) he came on the porch and pecked loudly on the patio door. We went out to see what was wrong and found that his love was under the porch and couldn't get back out. He was worried sick about this. Once my hubby opened a place for her to get out, he was as happy a can be.
Ducks make great pets. I'd advise you to get only one. at the start. One will bond with you. After it has bonded well with you and comes to you when called you should be able to get a companion for it.
He has now made us the proud owners of 14 babies. We are going to let her sit one more time this year and then I'll start pulling the eggs. The last time at market the (14 ) 6 week babies fetched $41.00.
Try your local feed mill or go online and type in buy ducks.
Good luck and enjoy.
PS. If you decide to get one and you want to keep it in the house there are websites that sell Duck diapers. You have to start wearing them on the duck when they are really young and small but the people that use them swear by them. There are some people that let their ducks sleep in bed with them and of course they are using the diapers. I have to say that will never happen at our house.

Baby chicken hawk?

okay so i get all your answers, problem is it was running the streets where a lot of cars are coming by and also... if i put it back.. cats will most defindently eat it in no time. it does have full feathers and is hopping around but right now i dont know if its a good idea to put it back.
Answers:
Put it up in a tree, near where you found it, so the parents can find it, or turn it over to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.
It is illegal for you to keep the bird unles you have the proper permits. And, since you do not have the training necessary to care for the bird, it would most likely not survive if you kept it.

Baby bunny help (again :))?

can someone tell me how old baby bunnies should be until i can touch them and make direct contact, and what age they should be when they start doing things like opening eyes, jumping out of the box, when to start feeding food, when i should seperate from there mom, etc. i've had a lot of rabbits before, never baby bunnies
also, is a box NEEDED? people say i should get a box but i know people who don't use boxes for them.
and if you can't answer any of these questions, please don't answer "i don't know" or "maybe do this"
thank you xoxo
Answers:
You can hold the bunnies as soon as they are born. They open their eyes around 2 weeks old. They jump out of their box at around 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. They will start eatting their mother food when they are ready. You separate them at around 6 to 8 weeks old.
you shouldn't touch them until their eyes are opened and they begin to move around more and are getting close to jumping out of the box. if you touch them any sooner, the mother may abandon them and not feed them. you need a nesting box. go to your local pet store and pick one up. you should put shavings or shreded newspaper in the box 28 days after she was bred. you should seperate them when they are a month and a half to two months or when they start jumping out of the box.

Baby bunny found in yard?

today while getting ready for a yard sale my sister and i saw a small furry rodent run across the yard. we thought it was a mouse and at closer look we seen it was a baby bunny. we were kinda shocked because we didnt know they were so small. it's about the size of a large mouse. it's so cute, but anyway we caught it for the kids and put it in a box with soft carrotts and grass. my question is, is it ok to keep it. do they have diseases or anything. and how do we go about taking good care of it. any help would be helpful. thanx
Answers:
It is illegal to keep wild animals unless you have the proper permits.
Best advice on orphaned wild rabbis comes from this website: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orpha...
It states: Many people mean well when they contact HRS after discovering an "abandoned" nest of wild rabbits. Often they wish to "rehabilitate" them with some advice from others. The reality is fewer than 10% of orphaned rabbits survive a week, and the care that people attempt to provide can be illegal, unnecessary, and potentially harmful. The best thing you can do is put the bunny right back where you found him, in the general area, as the Mom will only come back at night to call and find him. Leave the area. If injured, please contact a Wildlife Rehabilitator or rabbit vet immediately.
Rabbit mothers nurse their babies for approximately 5 minutes a day. They will be in the nest early in the morning and then again in the evening. The milk is very rich and the babies "fill up" to capacity within minutes. Mother rabbits do not "sit" on the babies to keep them warm as do some mammals and birds. They build a nest with fur and grasses which helps to keep the babies warm in between feedings.
Mom will be coming back at night to call and feed him only once in the middle of the night. Do not take the bunny inside or feed him. That is the mom's job. IT IS A MATTER OF HIS/HER SURVIVAL AND UP TO US AS HUMANS TO LEAVE NATURE BE AND LET THE MOM CARE FOR HER YOUNG. We often hear of mothers moving their babies and their nests, and have seen moms come back every night for up to a week to look for her missing baby. Do not take the baby from the mom or she will be frantic.
Older baby bunnies who are found outside of the nest may not be orphaned or in need of assistance. Baby cottontails are born without fur but develop a full coat in a week. Their eyes open in 10 days, and in three to four weeks they are weaned. At this age, they may explore the world outside of the nest but return there to sleep. They are not ignored by the mother but stay with the family group until four or five weeks of age. To determine whether a bunny of this age needs assistance, perform the dehydration test. Also look for bleeding, convulsing, fly larvae, broken limbs; if any, get to a rabbit vet or emergency vet immediately. If he is just out and about, leave him be. He is discovering his world, waiting for mom to return at night when we humans are asleep

If you need a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, you can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.
They have the training to care for wild animals, and they have the state and federal licenses required by law to keep wild animals, even for a short time.
That is nice you took it in. Yes, some rabbits have diseases, you should turn the bunny in to a vet's office.
better turn it loose - it is illegal to keep wild rabbits in captivity. it will most likely die if you keep it, because there is no way you can duplicate its diet
OMG! It's the Easter Bunny!
You really should have left it alone. It's Mom would have found it but now you've handled it she won't take it back. Take it to the Vet, he'll be the best one with all the answers.
We found one of those awhile back. Turns out, (though we couldn't tell) that it was a baby jackrabbit (mouse sized and TINY. Looked just like a regular baby bunny) anyway, it's probably not the kind that will make a good pet. Jackrabbits get HUGE and are always wild. It's Mom would like it back, I'm guessing. You can call the Humane Society and they will get you in touch with a wild life rescue who will come get it and introduce it back in to the wild. It's just not a good idea to keep that one, but many bunny rescues would LOVE to let you have a domestic bunny.
if you picked it up with your bare hands, the mother probably won't want it anymore. which means.. it probably wont be able to survive.
let it go.! the momma is close by.
RAbbits in the wild are usually infested with fleas and intestinal worms.
Give it up to animal control.
You really should have let it alone so its mother could return it to the nest.
you should turn it loose...some wilds animals, specifically bunnies, will not eat if they're taken from the wild and put into captivity
You should put it back where you found it. It is a myth that once you handle it the mother will reject it. The mother will accept the baby unless you keep it for a long time.
if it is brown it is a wild rabbit i breed rabbits nd babys are small when there born there pink!!bring it t a vet if it is a different color than brown it may have a disease
i agree with o0opink_fuzzy. if u ever find a stray animal u should ALWAYS take it to a vet's office before even SHOWING it to your kids. that way they wont know about it and they wont want to hang around it.this is a big risk that you've gotten yourself into.
try to keep your kids away from it until you take it to the vet. hopefully your kids didn't already catch something.
well good luck! i hope everything works out well.
Savannah L.
Yes, a wild rabbit will have parasites. Heck, I treat my sparkling clean domestic show rabbits for parasites on a regular basis.
Put the baby back as close to where you found it as possible. Maybe it ran out from a sheltered area? Like a bush or a dip in the grass?
It doesn't matter if you handled it or not. It's best chance for survival is with it's mother. At that size it is sure to still be nursing still. This is a critical time for it systematically. Bottle fed baby rabbits just don't live. They must be tube fed and most people don't know how to do that properly. It's different than with a cat or a dog. Even then, they don't always live.
It's way better off outside where mom can find it. Don't keep looking out the window for mom. She'll likely be scared and stay away fom her baby. Mothers feed leave their babies to keep them safe. They only come back to feed every 24 hours and that is enough for baby to grow up healthy. Put it back.

Baby bunnies?

my rabbit just started collecting her fur so she'll be having babies soon. i need to know what i should give her (like a small box and hay??) and what i should do with the babies when they're born. thank you
Answers:
Get an open topped box just longer and wider than mom and 6 inches deep at it's lowest point at the mouth of the box so mom can easily hop in and out but babies can't crawl out. Just about any box will do as long as it's not too big.
Put some wood shavings in the bottom. About an inch will do. Put hay on top of that. Use enough hay to make a well or burrow with your fist for the babies. Put the box in the same place as she is depositing her fur. Put her fur in the well in the box. Then leave her alone.
If she insists on not having them in the nest box then you will have to put the babies and her fur in after they are born. Don't interupt her kindling (giving birth). That may bother her. Rule of thumb: if the babies aren't out ten minutes after the first one appears there's a problem. Unborn babies will likely be dead, breach (and die), or stuck (mom and/or babies die). So check every now and then for a moving mound of fur in the nest box but also be prepared to put out dead babies if they're stuck or opt for rushing her to the vet. Hopefully she and babies will be just fine. :)
Put the babies in the nest box along with any fur the mom has pulled out. If she has not pulled out any fur yet, give her some privacy and she will pull out her fur and cover up her babies.
Side note: Check the temperature of the babies with your hands. They should be warm and toasty. If not, place the nest box on top of a heating pad set on low. The babies will dig down closer to the heat if they want it. Make sure mom cannot get to any cords attached to the heating pad. Use the pad only if your babies are cool to the touch and only until they feel warm and toasty for about 30 hours or so.
If they are already warm and toasty then great.
Place the box in the mother rabbit's cage/pen (give her a pen). Don't worry about her feeding them. She'll do it only once or twice a day for just a minute or so and on her own schedule. If you are concerned they are not eating, check them in 24 hours for round bellies. You may actually be able to see the milk in their tummies.
Check the nest box every morning for dead babies and remove any you find. Handling the newborns from day one is desirable for socializing the babies and will not keep mom from caring for them.
Give your mother rabbit a constant supply of fresh water in a water bottle or clean bowl. Give her a small handful of timothy, oat grass, or orchard grass hay every day. Give her as much pellets as she can finish off in one day.
It's okay to give her the occasional treat of dark greens (one leaf) or small slice of fruit but only 3 - 4 times a week and only if the babies can't get to it (like when they're older and jumping out of the nest box).
I do NOT give baby rabbits greens until 4 months of age in order to prevent the number one killer of baby rabbits - enteritis (diarhea).
If your babies should develop soft stools, it is okay to give them one or two tablespoons of uncooked, old-fashioned oatmeal (not the quick-oats or instant) daily until their stool firms up again. That should only take two or three days max.
You don't need to worry about weaning the babies. Mom will take care of that. Mom rabbit weans her babies at 5 - 6 weeks of age. However, since this is a critical stage for the babies so they should stay with mom and nurse and eat pellets and hay until 8 weeks of age. At 8-10 weeks of age they can safely go to new homes. Not sooner. They will certainly be ready by 10 weeks.
Please read "Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits" by Bob Bennett so you can learn more about rabbit care. You'll love it.
I hope you can find good homes for your rabbits. Enjoy the babies.
keep the baby bunnies...
u can try to go to the pet store and ask the stuff for help hope that help and good luck!
the babies will feed with the mom you have to let them with the mother...
Leave them and mom alone. She will take care of them.
give her a little extra hay and make sure that you have the male rabbit separated from the babies when they are born or he will kill the baby bunnies. Everything else the mommy bunny will be able to take care of.
I would call a local pet shop
Off to the vet with you!

Baby bunnies help?

Ok so my little 5 year old brother was at his friend maceys and we were getting a bucket for water because they had one in their play house and then my brother spotted 3 baby bunnies. and then we found another bunnie about 22 in away from the nest behind something so we decided to put it in with the 3 others and i want to know was that one of the bunnies from the first litter i found? also l8tr we went to hold them b%26#92;c on the internet it said it was fine to hold the baby bunnies so we left for awhile and we found that one hooped out so will it come back? i am very worried about the poor thing because dogs live in each house around my brothers friends house! please help i am very worried!
Answers:
They are probably at an age where they will start out on their own. You should not go out and handle wild animals, since it can harm both you and them. It is good to watch them, but keep your distance. Let them be, and mother nature will care for them the way she intended for them to be cared for.
If they are wild bunnies, leave them alone, they'll be fine.
You shouldnt have held them. THe mom most likley abbandoned that one because your sent was on it. You need to leave wild life alone, and let nature take its course.
well the rabbits are wild so the one that ran away proabaly will not come back, they automaticly assume your a predator, trust me i had a rabbit, he was part wild. And he never really came around. so im sorry to say you lost one,as for the others DONT LET THEM GO, they have human scent on them so there mother wont come back more than likely, There pretty much in your care, wether you like it or not. I dont know if you know how to take care of rabbits, but if you have any questions let me know, i had one for about three years, good luck trying to find that lost one.

It is NOT okay to touch wild animals! If the bunny was out of the nest, it is because it is old enough to be exploring.
This website has the best info on wild rabbits: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orpha...
It states: "Older baby bunnies who are found outside of the nest may not be orphaned or in need of assistance. Baby cottontails are born without fur but develop a full coat in a week. Their eyes open in 10 days, and in three to four weeks they are weaned. At this age, they may explore the world outside of the nest but return there to sleep. They are not ignored by the mother but stay with the family group until four or five weeks of age...If he is just out and about, leave him be. He is discovering his world, waiting for mom to return at night when we humans are asleep. If you come across a nest of bunnies in the wild and the mother is no where to be seen, please DO NOT disturb them...this is normal. By removing them from the nest you are greatly reducing their chances of survival. "
So leave the bunnies alone - ALL of them, whether they are in the nest or wandering around. Their mother will take care of them.
Don't worry about the ones you touched (just don't do it again). The mother will not abandon them. The above website also states: "Nests can be moved to a safer place up to 10' away from the original site and can be reconstructed if necessary. To make a new nest, dig a shallow hole about 3" deep and put into it as much of the original material as you can recover, including the mother's fur. Add dried grass as needed, and put the young back."

The best thing to do for them is try to keep cats, dogs and kids out of the area.
I agree with the previous posters that you should not touch them. While domestic rabbits will usually let you touch the babies without problem, the wild rabbits aren't quite as caring, as we are kind of a natural enemy, so if their young has a human scent, they will be abandoned. They will get along just fine.

Axolotls, whats the difference.?

how do u tell the difference between a male and female axolotl, as i want to start breeding and am unsure what sex i have.
Answers:
There are only two reliable methods of distinguishing males from females.
The first is that mature females tend to have very rounded bodies, due to the number of eggs present in their bodies. And the most reliable is that the sexually mature male's cloacal region is swollen, while that of the sexually mature female is considerably less so.
Check this website - great info

I just bought one from Country Supply (they have 30 day return policy too ) The one I got is a wide tree and it seems to fit my mule pretty well.
Depending on your QH's body style, I highly doubt you will find a saddle to fit both your horses comfortably, you might have to invest in 2.
Down Under saddlery in Denver has a great website to check out. They specialize in Aussies.
The one I bought in Country supply is the western style, they recommend those for longer backed horses/mules.

Attention Veterinarians!!?

Two of my dogs were playing with an onion. I don't really think they ate it, but there were little pieces of it in the yard. I read somewhere on the internet that it's toxic to dogs. Is it?
Answers:
Yes it is. If they are large dogs and didn't have very much then there's not much to worry about. The smaller the dog though, the more cautious you should be. When did they "play with it"? Call your local vet to determine whether it was recent enough to induce vomitting, if that is necessary. Vomitting can be induced by serving a tea spoon of peroxide.
i am sorry to say this but yes
Onions are toxic to dogs. They can cause a type of anemia. They probably just played with it. I have yet to see a dog actually eat an onion or even bits of one unless it is hidden in something else they are eating..not a fave flavor for these guys, but best to keep the things away from your dogs if possible.
Onion and garlic poisoning
Onions and garlic are other dangerous food ingredients that cause sickness in dogs, cats and also livestock. Onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient thiosulphate. Onions are more of a danger.
Pets affected by onion toxicity will develop haemolytic anaemia, where the pet鈥檚 red blood cells burst while circulating in its body.
At first, pets affected by onion poisoning show gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhoea. They will show no interest in food and will be dull and weak. The red pigment from the burst blood cells appears in an affected animal鈥檚 urine and it becomes breathless. The breathlessness occurs because the red blood cells that carry oxygen through the body are reduced in number.
The poisoning occurs a few days after the pet has eaten the onion. All forms of onion can be a problem including dehydrated onions, raw onions, cooked onions and table scraps containing cooked onions and/or garlic. Left over pizza, Chinese dishes and commercial baby food containing onion, sometimes fed as a supplement to young pets, can cause illness.
Onion poisoning can occur with a single ingestion of large quantities or with repeated meals containing small amounts of onion. A single meal of 600 to 800 grams of raw onion can be dangerous whereas a ten-kilogram dog, fed 150 grams of onion for several days, is also likely to develop anaemia. The condition improves once the dog is prevented from eating any further onion
While garlic also contains the toxic ingredient thiosulphate, it seems that garlic is less toxic and large amounts would need to be eaten to cause illness

At what age do sheep and goats get pregnant?

I NEED TO KNOW!
Answers:
I don't know about sheep, but some breeds of goats can get pregnant at a very young age. Miniature breeds (Pygmy %26 Nigerian Dwarf) in particular. Many times bucklings are willing and fertile as young as 8 weeks, and doelings will start having heat cycles at around 10 - 12 weeks old. Of course it's dangerous to let a doe that young be bred. Goats are pregnant for 5 months, and a 7 - 8 month old doeling are very often too small to deliver naturally and may need a c-section to survive the birth. It's much better to wait until they are 12 - 18 months to have them bred.
They have to mate before getting pregnant.

At what age do cows get pregnant?

Answers:
I think it depends on the breeding program. We breed our Holstein heifers between 24 and 27 months of age.
Under a normal breeding program young cows (heifers) are not bred until they are two years old, or very close. However, they can be bred at a much younger age if not kept properly separated from bulls.
They can get pregnant as early as 10 months. It's best to breed them at around 18 months.
Goats, I think around a yr maybe a little sooner, and I'm not sure about sheep, probably around a yr also.
Hope that helps.
Roughly 2 years
I THINK 25 TO 28 MONTHS

At what age can you start to breed guinea pigs?

I have baby guinea pigs and would like to sell them before they start to reproduce. At what age should i consider parting them from their mommy?
Answers:
Yes, that's a good idea.
The site at:
http://www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm...
tells you the many, many reasons NOT to let guinea pigs breed--give it a read.
As for when guinea pigs start having babies, you'd better sell them fairly quickly. The site at
http://www.guineapigsclub.com/gp_site/br...
says this:
Female guinea pigs become sexually mature at the age of four to five weeks of age and male become fertile at the age of eight to ten weeks. If you want to breed your guinea Pigs the best age to start mating a female is when she is after 4 months as breeding her before is not good and can be deadly.. This the best age for the females as the bones of her birth canal are still flexible.

At what age can I get my male ferret neutered?

Answers:
Minimum age to neuter a ferret should be about 6 months. This gives the ferret enough time to develop fully. Neutering ferrets as babies as they do in America is barbaric. Any respectable vet will not do it until the testicles are descended which in kits born late in the season may not happen to nearer spring next year.
Early neutering is also suspected in many of the ailments that American ferrets suffer from that are not that common in the UK.
all you need is a stapler and a tube of silicone
ask a vet
4 months. Actually, I'm a little surprised you have an unneutered ferret. In my state they must be neutered to be sold in the store. If there are 2 dots tattooed on his ear he has alreadt been neutered and descented.
Did you get him directly from the breeder?
If not, and you got him from a pet store, he has already been neutered, well he should have been anyway. Some do slip past.
One person said 4 months, I would wait till at least 8 months though. It gives your boy a chance to grow up with all his hormones in place as they should be. He should be much larger and healthier overall.
best wait till your in your forties
It depends on what age you are now.
5-6 months I believe.
Just so you know, if you also have a female ferret the male will need to have a vasectomy (tubes tied) rather than a castration (testicles removed) - female ferrets actually become anaemic if they don't have an intact male with them when they're in heat.

As a Minister a Fair Charge?

i am a minister and i know some charge for sevices but i never have felt good about it. if someone asks, i would say " a love offering of whatever you feel." i don't think i could bring myself to accept even a love offering for a funeral. i would say make a donation to an animal charity.

Arizona Blonde Tarantula care sheet?

I need help finding a care sheet for an Arizona Blonde Tarantula. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Answers:
http://www.centralpets.com/animals/insec...
Specific Care Information: Relative Care Ease: Relatively Easy
When keeping a Mexican Blonde Tarantula, have a deep layer of substrate for it. The enclosure where you keep this tarantula should be about as high as the animal's outstretched legs.
Breeding and Propagation: Relative Breeding Ease: Difficult
It is quite difficult to breed the Mexican Blonde Tarantula in captivity. This may be because breeding is possibly cued by light or temperature changes not present in a captive environment. Mexican Blonde Tarantulas are usually mature at nine or ten years of age.

Argh disobedient pet.?

My pikachu just WILL NOT listen. I have the proper badges, but he won't listen to me. I tell him not to chew on the sofa but he does anyways, we have a power outage every other day because he won't control his electrical energy, and he goes to the bathroom wherever he wants. He won't even get back in the pokeball when I tell him too. I'm currently thinking about putting him in the Pokecenter until I have time to figure this out. What should I do?
Answers:
Pikachu is my favorite! They are usually so well behaved, (at least on TV %26 in the movies). I don't think you can change this one. I would catch another pikachu with the pokeball %26 kick this one to the curb.
Lol
What?
He just may be a mutant, and you will have to sell him to the bad guys. He will drive them nuts, and you can get a new one that acts right. If they misbehave like that, they can't be real pikachus.
He is being disobedient cuz he misses the rest of the pokemon. Show him some TLC and take him to see his friends.
Sounds a lot like my lab he has a selective hearing problem!

Are you scared of Spiders?

I like the tiny ones.
Answers:
anything bigger than 1 or 2 cm's in diameter... yes.
they move so bloody quickly... i had a few in my bedroom as a kid that were about 2-3 inches across. one kept me awake all night as it was trying to climb up the wall - but couldn't get past a curling poster on the wall... and all i heard was *flick* *flick* *flick* *flick* as it kept trying to climb it %26 couldn't...
then there was the time one crawled on my back while i was asleep in bed.. so that old tale about them not crawling on you - rubbish!
another time, had one on me in the shower...
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek
YES!!!
yes
I don't mind tarantulas, 'cause they move slowly. The big ones that also move slowly are fine too. I hate ones that move quickly. Tiny tiny tiny ones are okay. But if they're about a centimetre big and move like lightening you'll see me running past you screaming.
No. But I don't like getting bitten by them or poisonous ones. If they don't bother me, I won't bother them.
No, but I don't like moths much
i like squashing them. but i like the tiny green ones!
no,%26 i dont like people that kill them
i absolutely hate spiders!!!
Why would anyone be afraid of a spider is more than I can understand. There are lots of people who are though but what caused them to be this way?
no, but I do not like them either.
yes very scared, dont like any insects
no, whenever i see a spider(especially a colorful one) i think of spiderman
I sure am..but I am so intrigued by them at the same time. They are so important to have around.
my 3 year old hates them i like them!!
im the same as yhou it depends on how big they are
i like them especially tarantulas
No
same, petrified of anything over a money spider, im phobic, id rather have a fight with someone 6ft +
I rescue spiders from the house and free them in the garden shed. It's a strange calling I admit but utterly fulfilling. A friend of mine rescues flies from spider webs and spends time reviving them. He's crazy of course. I've tried to convince him of the folly of his ways but he remains adamant - "Flies have feelngs too, " he says.
I'm only scared of the huge fuzzy tarantulas I like some smaller spiders they're pretty cool. But I also don't like poisonous ones.
I am petrified of them at the moment. I had a big one drop on the side of my face when I was dropping off to sleep a long time ago and it has caused me to have the phobia. The fear has become very irrational due to my suffering from PTSD.
I can't kill them.
:-)))
and me especialy in curry
Yes. It's the way they move.
Everyone has different fears; for those who say they can't understand why anyone would be scared of spiders...sure you scared of something!
you got to think spiders eat flies, and flies are annoying and land on everything, you know what I'm talking about! so spiders are good!!
No, and I can't understand why people hate spiders but tolerate flies. Flies are dirty creatures that spread diseases. I have a lil one in my bathroom (spider) and he has caugt about 6 flies in the last month. If he keeps paying his way he can stay. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/%26#92;(v''v)/%26#92; hehehe.
HECK YES, the only ones that dont bother me is daddy longlegs. if i see a little one ,i will freek out!!!
Young children don't seem to be afraid of spiders, but as they get older they sometimes are. This is definitely learned. The only way to deal with it, is to be around spiders and to respect them.
YES! I H8 ALL SPIDERS Even the small ones!
Only the big ones

Are you meant to wash mice ?

ive had my mouse for about a year %26 never washed it.
i have been cleaning the cage out more often,,
but it still smells pretty bad.
shud i give my mouse a wash ?
or is it bad for them?
Answers:
Do not bathe a mouse! The risk of pneumonia is very high on rodents if they get wet. And any soaps/shampoos would leave a smell on them which would probably lead them to try to clean themselves and injest the soap, potentially making them sick or worse.
If you are desperate, you can try using a very warm, slightly damp cloth. But mice and rats do smell, there's no two ways about it. All you can do is clean the cage daily, and possibly switch to a higher-grade, more natural (and more expensive) food. If the smell is bad, the food is probably bad - it's true for all mamals.
Not really a creature that's meant to be bathed... being so small, you'd have to be really careful that it didn't get too cold. A bath would be a very stressful experience for a mouse.
just get some luke warm water in sink, with the drain in. and lightly rub water on him. do not use soap. after hes wet. use a face cloth or small soft towel and gently dry him off. do not at all hold him under water or put him under the running water.
It'll be fine to wash it. I wouldn't use any soap though.
I would just get a wet wash cloth and rub the mouse down thorougly with it. Putting it in water might be a little traumatic considering a mouse's size.
Get a dry washcloth and dry the sweety well, which would be a good cuddle time if it's into that.
I wouldn't put it back in a dirty cage, so clean the cage first.
I give my rats baths all the time. I use diluted dog shampoo and give them a real bath, but they're much larger than mice and can handle a bit more than I imagine a mouse could. I'll put them in a towel together and they'll borrow in, rub against the towel, then groom each other dry. It's so sweet to watch.
The biggest worry in bathing such a small animal is making sure that it doesn't get too cold.
Well the soap could irritate it, so I wouldnt wash it...but they can swim...so maybe let it go for a quick dunk, lol. But if it has a stinky cage then your not cleaning properly. You should be using good bedding that absorbs the urine...Carefresh is really good if you can find it where ever you are. Its like shredded paper bedding and is great for smell. But you should be sanitizing at the very least once a month. Complete cleaning and de germing of the cage. Mice should not smell if taken care of properly.
You shouldn't bath ur mouse...usually mice are kept with atleast 2 or more so they can clean eachother but even though urs is alone I wouldnt recommend bathing it.its so small it would end up getting sick. Try wiping it with some kind of pet wipes...ur local pet store should have something like that...just ask the associates if it would harm a mouse. Good luck!!
Use just a warm, damp washcloth superficially. It is not recommended to bathe them. Click on this link to see a short video about bathing mice:

Are you craving corn? are your pets acting weird? are you off balance/having headaches?

All earthquake predictors
I think there is another one coming, and I think
that bridge collapse was a tremor
Answers:
You answered your own question.
Except for the pets (possibly), the others are wives tales, especially the corn.
In fact, people reading this may find themselves craving corn simply because they read it, causing them to worry.
EDIT:
I know it probably wasn't intentional, but it's similar to the yawn factor.
Most people (I have witnessed this) that see the Pepsi Max commercial with all the yawning people will yawn immediatly.
You can thank HAARP for messing with our ionosphere... It sickens me that weapons that affect the environment (floods, quakes, tsunamis) are being studied...
I can't tell, My Cat's always acting weird!

Are you a dog person or a cat person and why?

I'm a dog person I love dogs so much although I can easily get scared from them.. I have a dog German Shepherd her name is "Shayan"..
I would love to know your opinions and reasons
Answers:
I personally am a dog person. I have 4 dogs. I have a Yorkie, a black lab, a German Shepherd and a bulldog hound mix. I love them all to death. Dogs have a tendency to be there for you, to make you happy, to be there when you need them the most. Cats on the other hand seem to believe you are there for them. Everything with a cat is on their terms, they do what they want when they want and how they want to do it. I like cats as well but I prefer to stick with my dogs.
I have both - i like both. But dogs are more fun.
Dog. And larger breeds, retrievers, etc. Cats are too sneaky.
I'm more of a dog person but it's not like cats are terrible. All my cat experiences are good in all but it just seems that dogs just seem more loving and caregiving. Cats are cuddly and cute but dogs seem to be smarter and understanding. If you have a dog you know what I'm talking about.
why do humans have the need o categorise everything? i have both, a cat and a dog and i love them both to bits. there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides, a cat can look after herself, a dog cant, a dog will give you all the affection YOU want, a cat will give you the affection SHE wants, they are both different animals, and people should be ashamed to compare.!
I have both. My dog, Watermelon, is my outdoors fun companion. We go to the lake, go fishing and hunting, he loves to ride in (inside of course) my truck. My kitten, Sluggo, is my playful inside buddy who loves to wrestle and cuddle up as we watch tv.
I like both for different reasons.
A dog is usually always ready to play and be at your side while a cat can be more moody. However, I find that cats are much cleaner and don't smell as bad as dogs. Also, it is much easier to take care of a cat because it doesn't need to be let outside every few hours. A cat can be left alone for a few days if need be so long as you provide enough food and water. Then again, you can't take a cat for a walk and a dog can provide some security/protection.
I am personaly a cat person. I love the fact that they are litter trained and they can fend for themselves. Cats also can have fun and play though. Cats are cheaper to me and are less maitnance! I have 2 cats, one a 15 year old and the other is only 8-9 weeks old! They play and are sooo cute. But I love dogs, thier sooo cute, I just think they need alot of care. dogs are also sometimes defensless. and expensive
I am an animal lover in general, but I have to say that cats are much easier to care for than dogs, and are less likely to get you in trouble. Never heard of a vicious cat attack. Recently here in South Carolina there have been a rash of dog attacks - some fatal.
I think that it all comes down to responsible pet ownership. Any dog, except for the Chow, can be trusted as long as it is raised from a puppy. The reason I say Chow dogs are an exception is that they are the only dog recognized by the SPCA and PETA as a breed that has been in-bread to the point of complete instability. They will turn on their master for no reason.
German Shepherd dogs are my favorite - I had a solid black AKC Shep named Medes Christmas Magic , or Majie for short. She is in doggie heaven now but she was a great dog.
I guess to sum it up, I am a cat person if I live in an apartment, but if I live in a house with land and a fence, I am a dog person too. I will always be partial to cats for their rodent control skills - I always keep a couple of good mousers around the house. Right now I have a Hiland Lynx (registered with the rare and exotic feline registry as an endangered species) and a good old feline domesticus tuxedo kitty.
I'm a cat person because I am lazy and I hate water loll
I love them both.
I had cats for 23 years. They have more personality than any 3 dogs and can be either haughty and dignified or clumsy and hilarious clowns, often within the same 60 seconds. When they love you, they may pat your face and beg to be held. They are empathetic to your moods to a nearly eerie degree. And there's nothing like a warm kitty in the lap on a cold evening. They are also very convenient pets because you don't have to walk them or throw sticks for them or continually fuss over them.
On the other hand, I have had two great dogs. They are the most unabashedly loving and loyal pets you can find. It is just impossible to resist their enthusiasm and zest for life and my current sweet pup is a 4 year old lab mix that I just adore. She is better than the doorbell for letting me know when a stranger is around and is very protective, but she puts up with my grandchildren so patiently. She is laying at my feet just now.
So I guess I must just be a pet person.
i like both. but if i had to choose i would say dog. there more social and fun to play with.
I'm definitely a dog person. I love dogs and they love me. I don't know why but I think cats just don't like me. Dogs are cuddly and stuff and like to play and don't attack for no reason(at least not the ones I know).
i am definitely a cat person, although i prefer no pets at all. we got my daughter a cat when she was 15, which now lives with her (she moved out when she was 18, and he lived on %26 off with us for the next couple years still but is now full-time with her), our son had a chihuahua for a very short time (made him get rid of it cuz it kept pooping in the house -- that's why i'm NOT a dog person!!), we still have a cockatiel, and when he's gone, i don't want any more pets. i like cats cuz they're quieter, cuddlier, calmer, and less smelly!!
When I was little I would pretend I was a dog and crawl around the house for hours, and that's all I did up to the age of close to 9! I was never scared of dogs. ( Some strays would come into our yard and mom would panick when I started just walking over to them ) I have gotten bite dogs before, but I stay true and faithful to them, so yes I'm a dog person. Cats are OK - beside mine she's part insane - but I've always liked dogs. Dogs can sense when your sad, angry, and happy. But I guess cats can too..... well I guess I like both, but if I HAD to choose, dogs.
I am a dog person because dogs rock! Cats dont come when they are called there independent. Dogs you can play fetch run around and german sherpards are great dogs i know my cousin has 2 shes buying one more next week. Dogs are the best however mean u r to them they will still come back well if your not to mean. to wrap it up dogs rule!!
And dogs are cute
DOG! cats smell and they rip up everything!!

Are you a cat or dog owner? why?

please tell me why you prefer a dog or cat as a pet.
Answers:
I have a cat and i love her to bits! She is affectionate, talkative, clever and playful. She loves to chase scrunched up paper. I have always prefered cats as i find then to be cleaner, more independent yet still love their cuddles, they have less odour and are generally less work - i dont have to walk my cat.
That said, i am soon to adopt a dog. The trick is to match the animals personality and breed traits to your lifestyle, then you can't go wrong with either of these wonderful animals.
i prefer cats they are easyer to look after and soo much cuter i have 10 cats and a dumb dog so i think cats are better
I like dogs, theyre Loyal and they seem to enjoy the fact that youre home, cats kinda lay around (all the cats ive ever seen anyway) and come to you when they want to get attention.
well im a cat owner because cats are smarter and they luv to cuddle with you and their beauitful, when my cat looks up at me and i look into her eyes i can feel she luvs me.
iam a PROUD dog owner .. my dog is the most loyal .. loveable .. tail wagging puppy on earth .. shes my best a buddie !!
Yes! I have dogs and cats. They are very different creatures! My cats are very independent, while my dogs are very codependent. My cats will sit on my lap and just be when I need them to pet, while my dogs will get upset when I get upset, lick my tears, and try to cheer me up.
My cats are like my teenagers, while my dogs are like my toddlers!
I could never choose a favorite between them because they are both my favorites!
i prefer a dog for they are loyal, trustworthy, and i think you bond with them more.you can also play with them. cats don't really doo anything except eat sleap and very rarly do they hunt for mice. dogs also kill mice if they can get to them.

Are you a cat or a dog person?

which one do you like better cats or dogs?
Answers:
I love both, they are good in different ways.
Cats are comforting.
Dog are loyal.
dogs
Dogs - they like people.
Cats - they like themselves.
Take a guess!
i have a cat and getting another but love cats and dogs! so both more to the dog side though!
cant get a dog... :(
both
I am actually a dog person
I'm neither because I like both equally. See, a cat is good for relaxing and having something to pet and hold for company. A dog is good for playing around and exercising.
I'm a dog person...(just don't tell my three cats).
I love them both equally, for their own seperate reasons.
Although, I prefer BIG dog's, and Short Haired Cats... So as long as it's those I love them equally!
Both. I have 2 cats and a dog. I love them all but the dogs not talking to me cos i gave him a bath.
I am more of a dog person, but I do also like cats
im a dog person
i like dogs , if their not mean
Dogs are #1 at my house.my hubby hunts with dogs and they are the national champs so they have earned the stay at our house!! (they earned $$$$ as well) gotta love em'
Cat
Both, do you like your female friends better or your male friends?
Tough decision, huh. Both have their greatness, and both are wonderfully enjoyed both are your friends but with different "perks".
cats are better
not to be gay, but they are just cuter
both, i have 4 cats. unfortunately i cannot have a dog at this time. yard way too small.
i like both
I am a cat person, fits my personality better. But I have two dogs and a cat and love them all for different reasons :)
Dogs...
I heard that dogs are 'emotionally shallow" . but this doesn't bother me as much as it would with emotionally shallow humans.
I love dogs because they never seem to get tired of giving and recieving attention... they usually have lots of energy... they are good company to be taken for long walks...
This is my preference... i do admire people who like cats more. Patience and accepting that a cat only gives or takes affection when they feel like it!
x
dogs
I like both. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats, and I think they're both awesome. No matter what, they're different species, but have different personalities and that's what I love about them. I don't really want the same animals in the house because then it'll just seem boring and un-interesting to me. It doesn't really matter which animal is better because all animals are wonderful, no matter what type it is...dogs and cats may have different attitudes to their owner, different activities, and different lifestyles, but some cats can do some things that a dog can't do, and some of those things are what we find interesting. Some dogs can do some things that a cat can't do, and some of THOSE things are what we find interesting too.
Cats. They smell nice and don't jump all over you and slobber.
Cats aren't bad but i like dogs better
i like them equally, i have a cat and 2 dogs. btw, cats dont really smell that nice...
Dogs are WAY better.
I LOVE BOTH KITTYS AND PUPPIES lol its hard to choose

Are used pet carriers safe?

I have the opportunity to purchase a USED soft-sided pet carrier for my yorkie. Is it a good idea to purchase this type of thing used? Is there any way to make sure it is clean/safe for my precious pup? Has anyone ever had any problem with purchasing a used carrier?
Answers:
If you do end up buying it make sure you use vinegar and odo-ban to clean it out. Don't use any harsh chemicals like bleach, that can severally cause pain and damage to your precious pup.
It should be fine. I would wipe it down with a bleach and water solution and make sure all the zippers and whatnot are still working. I can't imagine any reason why it would be dangerous after all that. :-)
I would say go for it as long as you're not paying a lot for it. I think it should be fine, but before you use it why not wipe it down with some disinfectant just so it smells fresher and you can feel better about putting your precious pup in it. If you do have bad doubts though there are inexpensive carriers and crates at petsmart that where I've got mine.
I would clean and disinfect the carrier when you get it. Also ask the owner why they are giving it up and if their dog was healthy and you could also ask to see their medical history, the dog's, to make sure the animal that used it before was healthy. But if you do get it make sure that you clean it really well.
DO NOT USE BLEACH! go to any good pet store, and you can get a special spray to disinfect these things, Put it this way, would you like to be put into a small carrier after its been washed out with bleach?
I bought a used pet carried at a yard sale for three dollars and it work great. It really depends on the style and make of the carried.Carries don't usually wear out.

Are there any vets that might be able to help me with my bunny?

Last night my bunny hopped out of her cage and her cage is about 5 feet off the ground. I picked her up and put her back in but now she's holding her right back foot up when she hops. I can touch it and it doesn't seem to bother her, it doesn't feel swollen, and I can't feel where there would be any broken bones? where I live we only have vets that will take care of dogs and cats...what should I do?
Answers:
If she's holding her foot up, it's obviously causing her some pain. I've seen several broken bones in rabbits and never seen any swelling, so that may or may not be a sign.
Call all the vets in your area and tell them your situation, and ask if they will see your rabbit on a special-case basis. A lot of times livestock vets who deal with farm animals will see rabbits, too.
We used to have a house rabbit and loved her dearly, she was litter box trained but stayed in a large cage on the floor. I never had the problem you have with her, but my Yorkie jumped off the bed, rather than using the steps he always uses and hurt his leg. I applied ice, using a Popsicle to his leg, he allowed it to stay as he licked it. Within minutes he was fine and never limped again. Try it and see what happens if it does not help any vet can treat a rabbit. I brought ours in just to show her off and to have her spayed.
You're going to need to find a vet that handles exotics, even if that means driving a distance from your town.
Your rabbit needs care. While you might not "feel" any broken bones, there may be a sprain, or a dislocation that you would not be able to feel.
Please go to www.rabbit.org and click on the vet link on the right hand side. You can enter in your location and it will find you the closest rabbit specialist. Good Luck. I hope your bun bun is ok.
No need for an exotic vet as rabbits are covered by cat and dog vets. Exotics generally handle reptiles and stuff. Just take the rabbit to your local small animals vet.

Are there any places that are cheap and allow pets for photographs? I've tried Walmart, JCPenney and no luck..

Answers:
I see Petco %26 Petsmart set up photo days, especially around the holidays
If I were you, I'd just hire a photographer. You can usually find them in the phone book in the yellow pages. I don't think they'd be very cheap though. You could try PetCo and PetSmart but I'm not sure if they have a photographers because we don't have them around where I live.
You could get a friend to take some with a digital camera at a pretty park or somewhere that you enjoy going and then take them to the picture machine at walmart and edit them into what you want.

Are there any pets similar to Ferrets?

Pets that u can hold, play with, take out of cage... plz dont say dog or cat
Answers:
Well, this animal you can really keep as a pet, but, the weasel is like a ferret! You might be able to keep one, I am not 100% sure! If you go to: www.gotpetsonline.com, you might be able to see if there are some that need good homes in your area! I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck,
~ Future Vet
I think rabbits fit your description. There are all types of rabbits and although they don't usually let you hold them for very long they are great to play with and you can box train them so they can have free roam of the house.
How about a cute descented skunk? They both have that same musky odor.
A pair of rats would be an awesome choice. They are clean, intelligent, and very affectionate. They can also roam around the house in designated "safe" areas. Mine likes to sit in my lap while I watch tv and ride around on my shoulder while I do work around the house. They are fantastic pets!

Are there any mini potbellied pig breeders in MA?

Are there any mini potbellied pig breeders in MA?
Answers:
There's a great alternative to buying a potbellied pig from a breeder, and that's adopting one from the MSPCA! The MSPCA at Nevins Farm has a gorgeous potbellied pig named Peggy Sue available for adoption. Her details can be seen at http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/disp... . Nevins Farm is in Methuen, Massachusetts. The phone number is 978-687-7453.
Bozema is correct about potbellied pigs frequently growing to much larger than expected and then being abandoned. Although potbellied pigs can make wonderful companions, they require a lot of attention. Once fully grown, they weigh as much as a human, and they can do considerable damage to furniture, carpet, and other belongings. Finding a veterinarian for a potbellied pig can be a nightmare, especially if you live in a city. Another problem is zoning laws; many cities and towns have laws prohibiting residents from keeping "farm" animals, and define potbellied pigs as farm animals even though their guardians consider them pets. In short, keeping a potbellied pig is a huge challenge. Before you buy or adopt one, you may want to check out the following articles:
Thinking About A Pig?
http://www.pigpalssanctuary.com/thinking...
Health Care Articles
http://www.pigpalssanctuary.com/health/h...
There's considerable debate among "pig people" as to whether potbellied pigs should spend most of their time indoors (like dogs and cats), or divide their time between outdoors and in a barn. Whichever option feels right to you, it might be a good idea to plan ahead for the individual pig you adopt being one who would do better in the opposite setting. What I mean is, if you're planning on an outdoor pig, make sure your home is sufficiently pig-proofed that you CAN bring her inside, and if you plan on an indoor pig, think about whether your yard and any barn-type structures are appropriate for pigs.
There is no such thing as a mini potbellied big. Vietnamese pot bellied pigs can get to 100 or even 200 lbs when fully grown - there isn't a smaller version. They are very challenging demanding pets. Do your research before you proceed. Where I live, there is only one vet in the whole county that treats them. I have an aquaintance that does pig rescue and they all show up because they got bigger than the owners thought. They almost never find new homes.

Are there any men out there that put costumes on their pets?

I'm a chick %26 I think it's silly %26 a mostly girl thing, but am i wrong are there alot of guys that do it?
Answers:
Personally and this my opinion as a female. It is STUPID to put clothing on your dog. Spend that money buying yourself clothing. Your dog was born with clothing (its fur) it doesnt need man made materials thrown onto it. Ive never seen a man put clothing on a dog maybe a gay man would a very flaming homosexual not the "typical" gay man.
I have a male friend who dresses his dog.
i guess if they're really into clothes... or just really camp, probably!
Well it could be a gay guy..
OR it is possible that they would dress their dog all gangster or something. lol thats cute

Are there any healthy natural animal foods out there?

I'm trying to find all natural (which is what I call organic) healthy cat food and dog food. However cat food is my main concern. There have been many food recalls due to poisoning and I don't trust feeding my animals anything with asian products in (ANY). I'm looking to see if there are ANY all natural animal foods made in north america or in australia. I've bought a brand of animal food from the vet and my animals won't touch it, and as I trust their response to food, I feel there must be something wrong with it. I also tried an all natural animal food but some of my animals got sick and so I stopped buying that food. I'm looking for a lesser known brand because obviously as we've seen the big brand names are the ones that have the issues. If anyone else does not agree with my views I'd rather not be critiqued, and it's fine if you feel differently. I greatly appreciate any comment. My cats eat so much (as I have quite a few) that I can't make my own food but I might for my dog.
Answers:
I feed my cats raw rabbit, bones, hair and all. You can't get much more natural and organic than that, and it's cheap, too. Even cheaper if you buy a shotgun.
Mice, rats, and squirrels are all organic and tastey
You are definately right about pet food. There is much more going on than most of us know. (I work in a pet store and I did a research paper on it).
Here is an article that can help you find a natural pet food:
http://www.api4animals.com/facts.php?p=3...
Whenever you make a transition to a healthier food you may get upset tummies, stinkiness and possibly loose stool. This is not a sign that the food is not good but that your dogs body is expelling toxins from the old food. I would also suggest making the transition very slowly. Mix the old food with the new food and gradually work up to it. Supplementing with probiotics can help.
I won't recommend something specific without knowing more about your pets but here are some brands that I really like. If you go to your local natural pet store, they should have samples that you can try.

Innova Evo
California Natural

Are some rats more unfriendly than others?

I just got two new female rats, they had owners before me that saved them from being snake food but the owners couldn't keep them anymore. They are starting to trust my hand and they eat from my hands and let me pet them but they are really jumpy. I hold them but they don't like it to much. The owner before told me they weren't handled much and they will take time. My friend had a male rat that was so friendly and trusted everyone, are some rats more friendly than others and will my rats learned to trust me? They don't like to be handled much but they do like to come out of their cage and explore around the outside of the cage, should I keep handling them will they soon like it or should I leave them alone?
Answers:
Oh, it's true enough that differences in temperament will factor into how comfortable rats are, but that's not all.
A lot of it has to do with how they were socialized when young. Rats that are handled a lot, talked to a lot, given food by hand by people when pups and adolescents are much more trusting of people and much less likely to bite.
Usually rats that are deemed 'snake food' aren't given that socialization and attention. They therefore don't have those early experiences to trust and relax around humans. And while you can gradually make headway with many, some will not really come around. They'll always be jumpy.
If they're starting to come around, that's a promising sign. Eventually they may plateau in how comfortable they get, and that'll be no fault of yours. It never hurts to keep trying. Offering the occasional treats by hand (but not through the cage bars) tends to help some, as does the speaking in a soothing voice. Spending time with them letting them outside the cage to explore and spend time with you helps as well.
You're doing just fine with 'em. =)
In my experience in raising rats. I would have to say yes. My first rats were 2 tan rats and they were the sweetest as can be. I even had them trained to come when I called them. I got another rat, a black and white one, and that one was really skittish. She even bit me once, but only because I grabbed her while she was in labor. I think it's more about the personality and the previous treatment though. Since the rats weren't held much, they aren't used to it.
Try and keep handling them. If you leave them alone, they'll just become bored and even less friendly.
Feeder rats aren't usually handled (they're only being sold for snakes, after all), so don't always make good pets--and if the previous owners didn't handle them much, that makes for even more timid rats.
It doesn't mean that you should give up, though! They're still tamable, but it'll take a little patience. Here's an article on taming rats: http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk/information/...
Are some people more unfriendly than others?
Are some dogs more unfriendly than others?
Yes!
Each individual is unique.
They will come around, keep up what your doing, it just takes time.
yes, animals have different personalities - particularly rats.
are they males or females? in my experiences of working in a pet store, the males were a lot more calm and more quick to trust a new person.
i'd say just give it time and keep handling them, when you do and they're calm when they're in your hands and don't jump around a lot, give them a little treat - then they'll start to associate your hands with something nice - like treats.
