i have been cleaning the cage out more often,,
but it still smells pretty bad.
shud i give my mouse a wash ?
or is it bad for them?
Answers:
Do not bathe a mouse! The risk of pneumonia is very high on rodents if they get wet. And any soaps/shampoos would leave a smell on them which would probably lead them to try to clean themselves and injest the soap, potentially making them sick or worse.
If you are desperate, you can try using a very warm, slightly damp cloth. But mice and rats do smell, there's no two ways about it. All you can do is clean the cage daily, and possibly switch to a higher-grade, more natural (and more expensive) food. If the smell is bad, the food is probably bad - it's true for all mamals.
Not really a creature that's meant to be bathed... being so small, you'd have to be really careful that it didn't get too cold. A bath would be a very stressful experience for a mouse.
just get some luke warm water in sink, with the drain in. and lightly rub water on him. do not use soap. after hes wet. use a face cloth or small soft towel and gently dry him off. do not at all hold him under water or put him under the running water.
It'll be fine to wash it. I wouldn't use any soap though.
I would just get a wet wash cloth and rub the mouse down thorougly with it. Putting it in water might be a little traumatic considering a mouse's size.
Get a dry washcloth and dry the sweety well, which would be a good cuddle time if it's into that.
I wouldn't put it back in a dirty cage, so clean the cage first.
I give my rats baths all the time. I use diluted dog shampoo and give them a real bath, but they're much larger than mice and can handle a bit more than I imagine a mouse could. I'll put them in a towel together and they'll borrow in, rub against the towel, then groom each other dry. It's so sweet to watch.
The biggest worry in bathing such a small animal is making sure that it doesn't get too cold.
Well the soap could irritate it, so I wouldnt wash it...but they can swim...so maybe let it go for a quick dunk, lol. But if it has a stinky cage then your not cleaning properly. You should be using good bedding that absorbs the urine...Carefresh is really good if you can find it where ever you are. Its like shredded paper bedding and is great for smell. But you should be sanitizing at the very least once a month. Complete cleaning and de germing of the cage. Mice should not smell if taken care of properly.
You shouldn't bath ur mouse...usually mice are kept with atleast 2 or more so they can clean eachother but even though urs is alone I wouldnt recommend bathing it.its so small it would end up getting sick. Try wiping it with some kind of pet wipes...ur local pet store should have something like that...just ask the associates if it would harm a mouse. Good luck!!
Use just a warm, damp washcloth superficially. It is not recommended to bathe them. Click on this link to see a short video about bathing mice:
