i was wondering if they were legal to have as pets in the state of georgia. i know the scent gland has to be taken out so they can be housebroken but im not sure if they are legal or not.
Answers:
in georgia skunks are noth illegal and legal
Black/white ILLEGAL, all other colors LEGAL
the site below show a chart of the states that let u if u want to see for proof
There are many states where it is legal to keep a skunk as a pet. I would call your local county animal control office and ask them - even if they don't know, they will point you in the right direction.
They may be legal , and the pet store would tell you to take it to your local vet for it's shots..Well I purchased one but the vet would NOT give it it's shots and i was advised to get rid of it since they are rabies carriers...

Are seamokies worth it?
i want to have some seamonkies as pets, but my mom says no. is the only way to buy them food is by that special website? please tell me if u had any experience with seamonkies. (and some care tips)
Answers:
sometimes you can buy them at walmart or toys-r-us
their fun and easy to keep
find out WHY your mom doesn't want you to have them then prove to her you'll be responsible in taking care of them.
Seamonkies aren't worth it unless you really think your three years old. Why not get a betta, you can see them and they actually require care beyond feeding. Seamonkies aren't worth the hassel, trust me.
sea monkeys are nothing more than brine shrimp and not worth it.
You can buy a Seamonkie Kit that has all the food and the eggs and everthing you need with them. They are easier to take care of than fish. You just put the Seamonkie eggs in the water and they will hatch later and you just feed them the food that comes with them. (they dont live long) And look on ebay for the Kit.

Are rats or budgies smarter?
whcih one would you rather have as a pet also. Ive had them both and like them equally.
Answers:
I've had both, and I prefer the rat overall, although budgies live longer.
Mammals have higher brain funtions than birds.
Rats are very smart animals. I would have a rat if given the choice between the two.
Rats, by a long shot. They pick up things quicker, have more dexterity so can do more things, and have a better memory.
Rats are smarter.
wut r budgies?
Rats are a bit smarter
I personally would go with a rat because I think rats are really smart. I trained my rat to go Through a obstacle course in one hour.

Are Rats Good Pets?
Well, I was thinking of getting rats for pets. If someone can help give me long answers to all these questions, I will be very grateful.
1. Will rats let me hold them, cuddle with them, feed them out my hands and play with them, and can they be tamed easily?
2. Im wanting 2 (both I'll get fixed so no babies) but what will be better, 2 boys, 2 girls, or a boy and girl?
3. Please explain how I clean the cage and if their waste is toxic to humans.
4. Can a small cusion or fold up blanket be a good bed to sleep in or is the fabric dangerous to them?
5. What kind of bedding material could I put at the bottom of the cage that makes cleaning their waste easier?
6. Will they bond with me even if I adopt one or will they be attached to the person who raised them?
7. What are some things (diseases) I need to know about before getting a rat?
8. How long can they live?
Any extra info is most appreciated. Thanks!
Answers:
1. Most rats love to be held and cuddled (and will gladly sit on your shoulder or run across your arms), and will accept treats from peoples' hands quite readily. They're naturally social animals, so are pretty easy to tame.
2. Male rats can have squabbles later in life unless neutered, although many will get along quite happily. Female rats are unlikely to fight, spayed or not, so they might be your best bet.
3. Their waste isn't toxic if touched, but I wouldn't recommend eating it, of course :).
To clean their cage, take out the rats and set them on a surface nearby (couch, chair, etc, just be sure to keep one eye on them). Then, empty the bedding and waste into a small garbage bag and tie off the top. You can rinse the bottom of the cage with water afterwards.
4. I used to use dishrags, and my rat would curl up under them to sleep. She did chew on the fabric a bit, which prompted me to remove the rags--I think a lot of ingested fabric-fibers can cause a blockage.
5. Avoid softwood shavings (cedar and pine). Aspen is a really good alternative, as are hemp and Carefresh.
6. They can become attached to anyone, especially if bought at a fairly young age.
7. http://www.quite.co.uk/rats/#health%20pr... %26lt;--Has information on health problems.
So does this website: http://www.ratguide.com/health
8. Usually about 2 years, although some people have reported 3-4 years.
NOTE: All rats are different! Be sure to handle them at the store/shelter/breeder, so you can see how friendly the different individuals are.
YES
You can hold and cuddle them
start out with one at a time, as you are a novice
I found that unscented clay litter is the best, with some bedding thrown in
wash your hands or use rubber gloves, NO feces is good
I prefered not to put towels or pillows in the cage, they get eaten QUICKLY
They WILL bond with you, they are loving affectionate animals
My daughters outlived his years because he was so spoiled.
Good pets and not difficult to care for.
well if you want something that has a tail and can bite then yes but don't let that bring you down they are very good pets if you want then to be they can be fun you can walk them and play with them they are fun!

Are potbellied pigs legal to have in MA?
My family is thinking of getting a potbellied pig but we dont know if they are legal in Cambridge, MA?
Answers:
Yes they are legal but here is a bit of information for you:
All swine shipped or in any way transported into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from any point outside thereof must be accompanied by a Valid Health Certificate with the number of the Notice to Import Swine issued by the Chief of the Bureau of Animal Health. The official copy of the Health Certificate approved by the livestock official of the state of origin shall be forwarded to this Bureau promptly. The Certificate must state that to the best of the issuing veterinarian's knowledge they have not been fed raw garbage and the animals are free from evidence of infectious and contagious disease and have not recently been exposed to any infectious, contagious or parasitic disease.
All swine (including pot-bellied pigs or other "pet" type) must also comply with the following:
(1) Brucellosis
a. All swine imported into Massachusetts must be blood test negative to brucellosis within 30 days prior to importation unless coming directly from a validated brucellosis-free herd or state. Validation number of state status must appear on the health certificate.
(2) Pseudorabies
a. All Breeding swine must enter directly from qualified pseudorabies-free herds and have been negative to a USDA-approved test for pseudorabies conducted within 30 days prior to entry.
b. Feeder/Immediate Slaughter swine must originate from qualified pseudorabies-free herds or monitored herds in qualified pseudorabies-free states only.
c. Swine vaccinated against PRV (any type of vaccine) are not accepted for entry into Massachusetts.

Are pitbulls alow in apartaments?
hi i live in maryland i mabout to buy a dog today but im not sure if im alow to have a pitbull in my apartament maryland-elkgride
Answers:
In my country yes...
get something else
does anyone else have one in your building
You have to talk to your landlord and the association of the apartment complex/building. There is no answer that is universal to all people, or to the people in the state of Maryland.
Probably Not.
Don't you think it would be a good idea to ask the
building owner?
ok it depends with the owner of the apartments cheack with them before purshsing a pet ! good luck
It depends on your landlord. I wouldn't recommend getting a pitbull for an apartment, though. They need room to run and play. You would be giving one unlucky dog a very depressing life if you kept it in an apartment.
you need to ask your land lord, and you should also check your insurance because sometimes with pitbulls they believer you are at a higher risk.
ask your landlord if there is a restriction on the breeds and go from there
It all depends if you are renting. I pretty sure if it's okay with your landlord than you can have one!
I live in an apartment with two dogs and everywhere that I had looked had restrictions on dog breeds and that type of dog is not allowed. Look around, you might find a place that takes them.
I know there are so-callled 'good' pits, but why on earth wold you want such a controversial animal?
Most apts./landlords will not rent.
Insurance agencies willl not cover you, UNless you have very high deductible if that.
WHY BUY?!
GO adopt a companion form you local shelter!
Some even give 'rebates' for the spay or neutering.
Depends on the apartment.
I don't allow dogs.
Dogs stink... it costs too much to clean the stink out of the place when the dog owner moves out. And the dog owner always complains about the cleaning fees comming out of their deposit.
I know you can't smell your dog... you are used to it.
IF I CAN SMELL IT... I'M CALLING IN THE CARPET STEAM CLEANERS AND A CLEANING CREW TO SCRUB THE WALLS. $350. DEAL WITH IT.
in some states its illegal to own a pitbull. you have to get spacial permission. you could check with ur land lord or something. I don't think u are. all are different.
my landlord doesn't allow pitbulls in his apartments. it has something to do with his insurance. i'd check with your landlord first.

Are people superior to animals?
it appears that some nutjobs on here believe people and animals are equal.
Answers:
Well I think we are superior to animals we are smarter and can do things that dogs can't do.
people are Animals - mammals in fact.. actually we are primates...
as such we are not superior or inferior... just different...
some would say we are inferior because we have altered our environment and stuff rather than lived with it.. that we are unable to survive without stupid stuff like cars and cell phones which proves that we are inferior to animals like deer and worms who can live without that junk quite well..
well, in my opinion, life is life. whether you kill a dog or you kill my neighbor, its the same. Animals feel, think, have the capacity to suffer and feel pain, and clearly have the capacity for language. It would take a nutjob to deny that. And some animals, like chimpanzees have even learned sign language and passed it on to their young. And don't forget that people are animals too. it is clear that people "run the world" build cities, effect the environment, etc. but still. I think that saying that people are superior to other animals is just a sad excuse for very sadistic people to perform unnecessary "medical experiments" there are other types of experiments that don't involve the death of many. The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men. I, personally believe in evolution, and I feel that everything that we are capable of: language, emotion, etc. originated from them. we inherited it from them. I really don't care what you believe, as long as you dont use your beliefs as an excuse for the exploitation of innocent animals.
Our intelligence level is superior to animals. We have laws; animals have pecking order. We can build things and actually carry on conversations whereas animals make noises as warnings or other simple emotions but do not converse. Our bodies are just as complex and how it functions is basically the same. I would definitely say that the human race is superior to animals. We've actually made them/bred them to be how we want (many newer breeds of dogs). On occasion you may find a bird with the IQ of a 5-year-old or a chimp that understands sign language, but intellectually we have advanced.
Also bugs fall under the category of animals or in Kingdom Animalia if you'd rather. Hmm...
True we are damaging the earth. Let's hope we can fix what we've done...
The shortest way to describe this is Natural Selection.Look it up if you don't higher than a 6th grade education. now the long one:
in what way? overall I would say we humans are superior considering we are sentient and developed civilization. With the assisstance of our technology we can do almost everything an animal can do only better.I believe our lives are more important than their's.except for a few very intelligent animals, most animals are virtually robots. They were put on this earth for a purpose, and they will do everything in their power to fulfill this purpose. They are unconcerned with themselves .Some do have emotions, however the vast majority's levels of emotion and thought compared to ours is like comparing a firecracker and an atom bomb.Ultimately it isn't really a question of superiority.I'm assuming you asked this in response to the animal rights idiots around here.To simplify it,they are not doing their part in nature.Humans are nothing but very very very advanced monkeys. We are supposed to protect and take care of our own kind and ensure we survive. The PETA morons are not doing that. They are placing animals above themselves and others. In the less "civilized" world of animals, they would be considered useless to the herd/group and become abandoned and most likely die shortly after. they are obstacles in the circle of life. and a last comment:If killing a few hundred lab animals for tests can save the lives of millions of people Then I'm totally fine with that.
We may have the mental advantage over animals but I don't know if we're "better." Humans kill each other for absolutely no reason. We are knowingly doing things that will destroy our planet. Animals only do what what they need to do to survive, which keeps nature in balance.
How could anyone honestly think we are superior to the "lower" animals? We are considered by many scientists to be the most destructive animal on the planet, and have caused many other species to become extinct by our actions, the latest being the Yangtze river dolphin.
We try to change our environment to suit us instead of living with it. a perfect example is the many hundreds of people that have moved to desert areas like Arizona and New Mexico because of breathing problems associated with some plants / pollens in their previous areas. What is the first thing they do? Plant various species of plants from the area they just moved from! That's not superior behavior, that's stupid.
Humans superior? To what I might ask, rocks possibly but most assuredly not other animals.
Well looks to me loike I'm a nutjob lol. My dog is like my kid. I love spending money on him and having fun with him. He is my best friend. I think animals should have equal rights. Animals that are toilet trained should be alowed in public places like libraries and grocery stores. You should also be abole to drive with your dog in the carpool lane.
Animals have feelings you know.they get happy, sad, depressed, excited, stressed , scared bored,suprised..jus like we do.
FYI animals were here first so a little R.E.S.P.E.C.T would be nice Man has already done enough to harm the poor animals and and environment.

Are People out there trying to stop The dog meat and fur trade and puppy mills?
i was wondering i find it really hard to sleep at night as i hate knowing that somewhere in china or the Philippines or Kora there are dogs and cats being slaughtered eaten skinned burned chocked abused and even made to mate all day (puppy mills) i saw on the Internet really horrible images of theses acts and of abuse of dogs i was wondering are their people who go over to these country's to try and stop these crimes also animals used in laboratories are they still allowed or is it banned i really find it hard not to think about these things i picture their sad little eyes and how terrified they must be its makes me cry i hate knowing that right now a dog is being hurt or killed if find it hard to take , i would just really love to know if their are kind hearted people out there trying to stop theses vile acts on humanity like PETA or the Human society or RSPCA etc
could anyone tell me if there are people and what do they do too help stop it
thanks
Answers:
Actually some of the largest puppy mills are run by the Pennsylvania Dutch... Puppy mills aren't just a foreign thing and neither is using euthanized pets for dog food. Animals which succumb to one of the 4 D's; dead, diseased, dying or disabled and are euthanized often end up in pet foods. Especially those which labels only describe their meat ingredients as being "animal protein."
Also, please don't view PETA as a righteous group. While much of what they do helps animals if they had their way, there would be no domestic animals at all and many of their tactics can be considered "terrorism."
They even kill animals too... Visit this link...
http://www.petakillsanimals.com/...
This stuff isn't a secret or lies, it is court information complied from a trial against PETA and its members...
of course there are people out there trying to stop it. PETA is just an extremer group than the SPCA. they usually protest and sometimes go to extremes to stop these acts
i feel the exact same way.i cant even look at those pictures though because i know that i would never be able to get those images out of my mind..it is so incredibly sad to me
i know it is terrible!! people just need to be educated about these things. also, shark fin soup... have you heard or seen what they do to sharks? its horrible. just educated people about adopting shelter pets, not wearing any type of fur, and support humane animal societies, and Peta. thanks for being a supporter!
Of course! I think real fur coats is now cruel, cuz it was okay for cavemen and all, but not to show off, that is a waste. And then there is make-up testing on animals! it's horrible!
I completely agree with you. I'm not sure exactly what other people are doing, but I know that the organizations that you mentioned try to spread the word about it to stop it. If you haven't already, you can join the online communities of those organizations by going to their websites and signing up. They send out emails informing you of current issues and giving you links where you can sign petitions, send letters to government officials, and take a stand on what you believe. Thanks for caring--I don't understand why more people don't.
I hope these animal welfare groups r doing something about the atrocities done to animals. I donate whatever money I can to several organizations as they r not funded thru the govt. but by private donations. Animal welfare, like The Humane Society of the United States has no authority to ban the slaughter of dogs and cats in foreign countries, at best, they can protest to that countries leaders. Here in the states we can write to our senators and protest the animal abuses that keep occurring, dog fighting, lab testing , inhumane slaughter of food animals, etc. All good deeds done by the ASPCA, Peta, HSUS costs money to operate, so donations and letter writing to our lawmakers r about all one can do. If enough people would get involved to make their voices heard, then and only then will some of these horrors stop.
could anyone tell me if there are people and what do they do too help stop it
thanks

Are most animals boarded/sick left unattended overnight at vets.?
Answers:
Most times, a vet is either checking on them, so staying there if there is a critical pet.
Animals that are boarding are usually NOT supervised overnight.either at a vet hospital or a boarding kennel. That would cost a heck of a lot more!!
When in doubt as to the care of your pet with a specific problem, ask. You do not have to leave them!! Many times, if you are comfortable with the IV cath and or fluids and other things, they will let them go home to be watched by the owner.
You need to ask if your pet will be supervised or not. This happened to a good friend, and the pet died unattended. Make sure to ask if your pet is really sick. They have to tell you if they staff during the night.
Absolutely.
The only case in which there may be at least a vet tech overnight is in an animal emergency hospital, but for the most part they are indeed left alone at night.
At our clinic the last technicians leave at 10pm and arrive at 5am, so yes... animals are left unattended between 10pm-5am. All animals are hooked up to monitors overnight and our system is set up so our vet (who lives literally 5 minutes form the clinic) will be alerted if an animal goes into trouble. However, if we feel as though the animal needs to be monitored all night we will transport them to our emergency vet for the night for treatment(s) and pick them up again the next day (if we believe that is best).
If you are concerned about your pet being left unattended you can always locate a 24 hour facility, like our emergency services.
Most of the time, yes. They do have people go in and clean up poo, give them water and food, and walk them. Then they leave them all locked up and un-attended
Are lilies poisinous to cats and which bits?
Answers:
its the pollen within the flower that is poisonous, cats seem to be more affected at first than dogs but we had a case in the vets where i worked a year ago the cat had rubbed against the Lillie getting pollen on her coat she licked her coat and within minuets she had been paralysed and then died,if you have animals its best not to have Lillie's unless they are out of reach
Typical Toxicity: Toxic effects are limited to cats, and include kidney damage or failure, dullness, loss of appetite, and vomiting. Note that only a small amount of any part of the plant can lead to very serious effects!
Yes, they can cause kidney failure. This can be any part of the plant as far as I know - certainly the petals anyway. They don't have to eat much.
Chalice
Yes so i,ve been told its the middle bits which shed its pollen and it also leaves a nasty stain on table clothes
Yes they are, i have heard that its the yellow middle bit, but as a precaution i never have lillies.
Are Labs good dogs?
What about German Shepherds?
Answers:
i have 3 labs they are the sweetiest dogs and r really fun they r good swimmers and very fast runners also they r loyal and at times can b running around but then lay down right next 2 u and just lay their heads on ur lap and then u may even fall elsleep labs r much better take if from some1 who has 7 dogs and 3 of them r labs
German Shephards are much better, more loyal, protection, etc.
labs shed too much
id go with a malamua they look practically the same as a german shepherd but are more gentle and have better training ability
I myself have a GSD. she is a wonderful dog. The best dog i have ever had. She swims and rns every morning. Great personality. I strongly recomend them as pets
I'm not a dog lover but, it takes a good dog owner for any dog to be a good dog. for example:pit boles and rottweilers aren't good dogs but, they can be really friendly and good if you train them very well. that's what i think about dogs any ways.
Never had a german shepherd but i love labs they are soooo loyal, and very well mannered and mind well. They are my fav.
YES! I owned a black lab. They are so friendly. They are also full of love and happiness. They also are easy going and usually relaxed except for when the hear the word "walk"! LOL
i must say labs are better because they are loyal, caring, playful, and protective...the perfect dog
i don't know about german.but labs r good dogs n easy to trained.i got one.
yes labs are good dogs give them a treat every five days if there good German shepherds too do the same name them a good name
Yes, they are good dogs. But I have 2 German sheperds , and I just dont think that you'd find the same amount of love and loyalty with a Lab. My German sheperds love to be with me , and protect me , and they are really smart animals. So I would think that you'd be better off with German Shepherds.
Labs are very intelligent!
Yes...both of them! If you go to your local animal shelter, you should find a very good dog, just for you! =) Both breeds are loyal, easy to train, obedient, and good guard dogs for your house!

our family has always had a lab, they are great with children and real members of the family. everyone who met ours loved her. ours had good guarding instincts...(not the stereotypical lick to death lab.)We had no trouble with her weight (she had a good diet though) She was brilliant with other dogs and animals too. (we live on a farm and my friends German shepherd was pretty badly behaved around other creatures). I myself have never owned a shepherd and so cant speculate, i know many happy owners but i am really a lab girl myself!
omg yes! they are sooo friendly nd luv 2 play with yu. i suggest getting one! they luv children... they play non aggresive. GET THE LAB!! :] I GOT MINE WEN IT WAZ VERY YOUNGE! THEY START OUT 2 BE ABOUT 10INCHES THEN THEY GET BIGGER... I LOVE THEM! TEND 2 RUN ALOT OUTSIDE BUH IF YU HAV A LEASH YU MIGHT WANT 2 PUT IT ON BUH THATS MINE! =] HOPE YU GET ONE!
I have a male GSD that i adore. They do shed a lot,but are very sweet.A GSD requires a lot of attention though. They are very active dogs.I would not recommend owning one if you cant devote a certain amount of time for training, walking, etc.Labradors are also very friendly dogs. They shed less and do not require as much exercise as GSD.I would suggest reading up on personality traits of various breeds and talk to your vet about which breed would best fit your lifestyle.
Love my lab to death - he's such a goofball. Laying on the floor in front of me right now happily sleeping with his paws up in the air.
Had a German Shepard when I was younger - he was a great dog as well, but my lab tends to need less stimulation to be happy. So - depends on how much time to you have to focus just on the dog but neither one is a bad choice if you are ready to have a dog in your life.
Good luck.
Labs and german shepards are both gr8 dogs. I have 5 labs and my pap has a german shepard. Labs are VERY playful so if u can handle their constant need 4 love and attention, then u should definately get a lab. 1 of my labs is VERY jumpy and as soon as I walk in the door she jumps all over me but i no that she's only doing it cause she mised me when i was gone. If u want a dog that will protect u, then get a german shepard. They will defend u against nething. Good luck!
Labradors and German Shepherds are BOTH good dogs, and it doesn't matter by breed. They're all loyal and people-oriented!
Labradors- They are loving, affectionate, lovable, and patient dogs. They're also highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high spirited. As they are lively and good-natured, they love to play with people, especially in water, for they love to swim! They have an excellent, reliable, temperment and are friendly and superb with children, and all ages. They crave human attention and are social dogs, just like German Shepherds are! Honestly, I think Labradors have an enthusiastic attitude toward life, have a short %26 easy-care coat in your choice of three colors, have a cheerful %26 tail-wagging nature, are dependable with everyone, and are peaceful with other animals.
German Shepherds- A member of the herding group, the German Shepherd is fearless, bold, hard working, and alert. They are esteemed for their loyalty, deep devotion, and courage. This breed thrives on human interaction from their family and does not like to be left alone for extended periods of time. German Shepherds are exceptionally wary of strangers. They will most generally get along with other household pets they have been raised with. This breed will attempt to perform the task of herding on anything and everything that moves. The German Shepherd is not recommended for the novice, apathetic, or sedentary owner. German Shepherds make an excellent companion, for children, teenagers, and adults. The breed is known and favored in many countries for its intelligence, trainability, adaptability and fortitude.

Are horses, pony's?
i am feeding carotts to a mare and her foul across the road from me, i adore them, they are not mine, anyway, wondering are horses friendly animals when i am finished giving them the carotts the mare just F...s off with her self doesn't want to know me, now the foul stays alright, just wondering any answers please.
Answers:
Horses and ponies are kind and thoughtful, as long as they are treated with respect. They enjoy TLC (tender loving care) and nibbits to eat - especially carrots. My reason for this, is that the mare and foal might not know you well - therefore they cannot trust you. Maybe the mare is protecting her foal, or the foal is just plain curious. At the end of the day, the foal's mum, can tell the foal what to do, and what not to do.
So, go and see this mare and foal if you love them so much, and talk to them reassuringly, and take some nibbits - you can give them carrots, naglets, polo mints, apples and many more things!!
Enjoy!!
no
i dont understand
Horses are great Companions. Mares thend to be moody. While Foals are still curious and want to learn.
her foal you mean... foul is meaning something bad. they are friendly animals if they are socialized and know people. you need to ask the owners about giving them treats because she could be on a restricted diet you should never feed other people animals with out asking first. what is the question are they horses or ponys or are you just telling people about them. they are pretty friendly if they let you feed them over the fence but i suggest you dont go into the pasture and mess with them especially the baby cause mom might be protective and horses and be dangerous if you dont know what you doing around them.
ADDTION: chill out sheesh im not accusing you of anything you posted a very odd question so i was giving you information, Ididnt say you were stupid and was very curtious in my answer to your cryptic question. you didnt say if you had permission from the owners and i dont know you from adam so i was giving out suggestions... dont get your panties all bunched up... if i didnt say something some one else reading these might think its all good and dandy to walk up to strange horses and feed them foods they might not need to eat!
horses and ponies are the same breed. a horse is 14.3+ hands (a measurement) tall. A pony is 14.2 and less hands tall. Carotts are a treat for them and the mare, probably older and more experienced comes and eats them, then doesn't care. The foal probably being younger (foal- baby horse) is more curious about you so he stays and wants more.
Horses and ponies are very friendly animals. However they can be very shy. Foals are a bit more curious ...
I would advise not to feed them with high energy food stuff such as carrot, apple or bread. They can develop a dreadful disease called laminitis if overfed.
Horses and ponies are both generally friendly and curious. However, those that have bad experiences or were treated poorly may find it hard to trust people. This is probably why the mare wanders off after getting her treat. Try not to take it personally. Foals are new to the world and haven't had bad experiences yet which why he stays. Horses and ponies are not the same breed, they are the same species.
please don't swear. and yes horses are ponies.

Are horses just like giant dogs?
Answers:
No. but giant dogs are just like horses... if you're a midget!
Are you kidding me? Is a bear like a giant hamster? They are different animals with different characteristics, different needs, and different purposes. NO, they are not like "giant dogs".
NOOO i know people say that but when ur on a horse you have a chance of being bucked/reared then kicked/steped on and maybe even killed! when ur playing with a dog it might bite you than you spank it then it walks around with its tail between its legs. but when u spank a horse hold on tight!
No, they're not. And if you asked a question like this, DON'T get a horse, you'd probably get picked up by the ASPCA.
Not at all. Horses are completely different animals altogether, that bit is obvious. Horses are flight animals, they run when scared. Dogs on the other hand are less flightly. Horses are bigger, but are generally less trusting. A horse needs to be treated sympathetically. Im not saying a dog doesnt but a horse cannot really be compared to a dog. You can ride a horse, you cannot with a dog. However people do take horses on walks eg. after an injury. Horses can also inflict injuries on you, not necessarily more severe but ones a dog cant eg. they kick you, buck you off etc. Im not really sure how to put this but its not really a hard question to answer. If you want a giant dog, get one. If you want a horse Id suggest doing some research first or helping out a stables, then you will find out for yourself!
Are hermit crabs insects or are they related to spiders ?
Answers:
Hermit crabs are decapod crustaceans of the superfamily Paguroidea , not closely related to true crabs.
Neither--they're crustaceans, like lobsters.
neither
Hermit crabs are crustaceans and are related to shrimp, lobsters, and my aunt Matilda! They are neither insects nor arachnids. They are bogus little critters with no shell of their own so they borrow those of dead snails. As they grow, they will trade shells for bigger ones.
Hermit crabs are not insects but they are related to spiders and insects. They are all from the same Phylum, which is the class Arthropoda. From their they are classified in class. Hermit crabs are from the class Crustacea which also include lobsters and crabs. Spider are in the class Arachnida, and insects are in the class Insecta.
none- they are crusteceans and are related to crabs and stuff i think. if they aren't then they're related to octopuses and mollusks cuz of the shell.
Are hedgehogs legal in georgia?
i want a baby hedgehog but i am not sure if they are legal to have as pets in georgia.
Answers:
You can actually watch them on the roadside for free particularly along Hwy 41 near Lake Allatoona.
Well they most likely aren't so you would probably have to have a permit.
I dont know how you would go about getting a permit so you would have to ask someone.
They're currently not allowed as pets in Georgia, but you can be a licensed breeder, not too sure how that little loophole came about.

Are hamster had babies 3 weeks ago when should we seperate them so they don't mate?
Answers:
You should seperate the babies once they begin to grow tiny bits of fur. Once they do, the parent hamster may eat them. Also, they may begin to mate out of control.
You should separate them so they don't eat their babies, mate again, or mate with their children!
Are guinea pigs supposed to be fat?Is it bad for their health to be fat?Should they excercise and how?
Answers:
Yeah, guinea pigs are generally at least a little chubby. My sister has a guinea pig that is REALLY fat, but she is doing great! You don't want a skinny guinea pig.
From my experience, it doesn't hurt for a g-pig to be fat. As long as he/she isn't having problems getting up or anything. The max for g-pigs is 3lbs.
If you want your guinea pig to be active, take it out a lot and let it run around. (We usually keep ours off of the carpet because they pee so much.) Also, you can put yours outside in an enclosed pen. We put ours outside all day on nice days. Keep a cold water bottle, houses, and shade handy and you will have a great set-up! We let ours run free on our lawn because we trained them not to runaway, but I sugjest you don't do that.Just putting them out on a nice, dry 70 degrees(or somthing like that) day with a fence around them. One guinea pig should have at least a 3foot long and 2foot wide enclosure.
umm well they are bigeaters and they do excersize wen they want to if you dnt av a big enuf hutch they they will get fat .
Enroll them in a guinea pig gym, get them a personal guinea pig trainer and some guinea pig exercise equipment then you'll have it made.
I had 2 guinea pigs, but they were never fat. If a guinea pig is fat, they are at risk for developing diabetes. I used to have an exercise ball for my guinea pig, it's like the ones for a hamster, but they are bigger. Just watch the guinea pig, so it doesn't roll down any stairs. Cut down on food, but make sure they get plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, and they LOVE grass. Hope this helps!
They're supposed to be chubby, hence the guinea PIG, however too fat isn't healthy. Exercise them at least a half hour every day, and don't give them too many treats. Just let them run around, or put them in one of those balls. They're are many toys they can use. Just check out petsmart or petco. Good Luck :)
Well... they are naturally a little chubby, but you should have a big cage with a wheel, and you should buy a play thing or something, BUT HOW DO YOU GET A GUINEA PIG FAT ANYWAY?!?!
Are guinea pigs safe?
Is it safe to take care of (feed, change the cage bedding, etc) guinea pigs when you are pregnant?
Answers:
Yes! Having been preg yrs ago and now having a guinea pig, I have read books on guineas and they are safe to have while being preg and having newborns in your house. Just wash your hands after cleaning the cage and petting it. When cleaning the cage you might want to wear disposable gloves if you are still nervous about it. It's the litter box with cats that preg women are to avoid. Something in their feces that gets in the air can cause birth defects and miscarriages. Cats themselves are safe, it's their feces that isn't. If you have or get a cat, keep the litter box out of the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom and have someone else clean it.
Guineas can bite (nip) so don't let it near your baby. But you can hold your baby up to the cage for them to look at the guinea and let the guinea get use to your baby's smell and sounds. They can become friends. Healthy guineas live for 8 yrs. So it's a commitment.
Good luck and congrats on your new arrival! God bless!
I'm pretty sure the only animal you have to be careful around when you're pregnant is cats, and thats only the feces. But to be sure you should ask your doctor.
Well, you might want somebody always with you when you're taking care of the pet, just in case something is too hard for you to do. What if you pig gets stuck in a tight spot and you can't get him out?
I think it would be fine, if you had some one else to accompany you. You shouldn't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Good luck!! =]

Good luck!! =]
Are ginea pigs best alone or with another ginea pig?
and how often must u clean there cage
and what other things should they have to be happy
Answers:
In captivity, guinea pigs live in situations that would normally not occur in the wild. If raised together, sows can easily live together their entire lives, and sometimes can be introduced to new sows (if the living space is large enough so everyone feels they have enough space). Often only boars that are introduced at a young age, or litter mates kept together, can comfortably live together. Some guinea pigs will be more comfortable with other guinea pigs than alone, and others will prefer to have their own space, so let the guinea pig determine the housing situation. Sometimes one pig will be bossy or aggressive toward other pigs, and though violent fights are not terribly common, injuries can occur. This can result in torn ears, cut lips, or bites that may fester, and are best avoided. If guinea pigs are introduced to each other, be certain to watch them carefully and have another cage ready in case they are aggressive toward each other. Generally, the larger the enclosure, the more comfortable your guinea pigs will be together.
for the cleaning part u should clean them often so they won't stink everything up
you should buy toys and treats for the guinea pig to make him/her happy
yes

Are ferrets legal in Toronto, ON, Canada?
I've been considering moving up to Toronto, but have 5 ferrets that HAVE to go with me (they're like my children and I will not give them up), so is it legal to own a ferret up there? I've looked online, but found different answers. One site reads they are legal, but another reads they aren't legal in certain parts of Toronto. Does anyone know for sure if they are or aren't legal? Also, are there any vets in or around Toronto that deal with ferrets?

Are elephants really afraid of pelicans?
I've heard that an adult male pelican can fit a newborn elephant in its beak. I live in Russia and have no idea how big an adult elephant is. I'm guessing that an Indian elephant is the size of a cat, and an adult African elephant is the size of a medium sized dog? A friend of mine tells me that a pelican is the size of his Skoda. Is this true?
Answers:
Well, a healthy newborn elephant weighs 150 to 250 pounds. It would have to be a heck of a pelican.
An adult elephant can stand 12 feet tall at the shoulder and weigh six tons or more.
There are elephants in Russia, and you can certainly google them and pelicans up on the internet.
Am I walking with a tilt because you are pulling my leg?
Where did you here that!? Male pelicans CANNOT fit a newborn elephant in it's beak! That's weird..!

Are dogs scared of cats?
are they
Answers:
It depends on the individual dog (and cat). I have an 85 lb dog who generally gets along well with cats, but he is terrified of one particular cat that always lunges and spits at him.
Some dogs are, especially if they've never seen them before. Others will want to chase them. It all depends on your dog's personality and past history.
It all depends. Certain breeds, such as Bernese Mountain Dog, or poodle do not go well with cats. Also, some breeds DO go well with cats. Do some reasearch on YOUR dog.
usually dogs r not scared of cats unless a certain cat really hurts them, ussually the can is scared of the dog but if u put a puppy and a kitten together wen they r still young the dog will learn to get along with cats better and the same thing will happen with the cat
If they have ever had their nose opened up they are!
Depends on the dog. I have seen small dogs run from cats. My cat beat up a rat terrior once and the little dog has been scared of cats ever since. I am not sure about large dogs though, but I am sure its possible. Life experiences can make them fear full of happy to be near cats.
Some dogs can be, but it's mostly the cats who are frightened of the dog. Some cats are brave and can stand up to a dog as they'd like. It, also, depends on the breed of dog, as well. Some large dogs tend to run away from cats and some cats tend to run away from dog breeds that are smaller than the cat's size, but personally and truthfully, this is their natural instinct. Basically, it always depends on the cat's temper and breed and the dog's size, breed, and behavior.

Are dogs better than cats?
dogs rule!
Answers:
yeah they do!
yes, dogs are more faithful
definately
I like dogs best. They just seem to have better personalities and love their owners so much.
neither is better, it all depends on the person and lifestyle as to which is better for you
I prefer dogs because they Rule!
no cat are better i have 2
cats all the way
i hate dogs
nalyxos
NO CATS RULE!
That is a battle that people are constantly fighting.
Dogs are more intelligent. They will walk with you on a leash and protect you if necessary. However they must be taken out each day twice a day .
Cats are cleaner. They will go in a cat box. hey will more readily cuddle with you. They can be a loving pet.
So it depends why you want the animal as to which is better.
Yep
dogs are more of a hassle but can be better companions, CATS are just always there, eat sleep, sit next to you...
deff. they're friendly, loyal, come when you call, obedient and arent independent like cats
It depends on the type of responsibility you want. Cats are very independent and only come around when things are relaxed and when they want to be loved, they also use a litter box as young as 8 weeks. Puppies however are very high maintenance, they are literally like having a new born baby, they need constant attention and walks. If you want to house break your dog you have to get up all hours of the night to let t its definitely a bit harder to have a puppy but it pays off in the end when you have a best friend.
at fetching balls yes, at taking themselves for walks no. I am more for cats than dogs. i think your either one or the other!
I like both...dogs are great companions, full of energy and really love their owners, cats are cleaner and quieter and can sleep anywhere
Well, I've never had a cat that poo'd all over the yard, barked its head off all night long or tore the grass in my lawn down to dirt before. . .so I'd say cats are definitely better!
Well it depends on you not on other people I prefer dogs but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't get a cat. cats can be so cuddly and nice but dogs can play and grow a strong bond between you but can be hard to take care of
so like i said its all up to you!
dogs are defo better. they are faithful and protect you
cats just come to wou when they want to and they don't just use litter boxes they also use neughbours gardens and then you have problems with the neighbours because of it.
Dogs come in a far greater variety of shapes and sizes, they can also perform many useful tasks, unlike cats, which simply
decimate the wild bird population and **** on other peoples
gardens. QED!
Dogs are fun and faithful and trustful and a mans best friend!!!
yea they dont put hair every where unless they shed in summer
uh uh, no way!!
I think all animals sould be treated the same cats can be as good as dogs and dogs can be as good as cats they are diffrent but in good ways so your answer is 50/50
Cats
I love my cats, sometimes they even meet me, when I come home from work ?
They can show a lot of affection, just like a dog.
I also like dog, which my Dad had when I was younger.
So I would not say one is better than the other.
no. never.
I would have to say, its a subjective response to that.
Dogs are restricted on where they can go - they have to rely on us to care for them and to take them out and exercise them. Cats are very carefree. They can fend for themselves, find their own food and go out where ever they want when we open the door/window.
Dogs are pack creatures and crave the company of others. They are loyal and protective animals - so in my humble opinion - Dogs rule, cats drool.
Every time, cats have a game flavour I don't like.

Are Degu's Good Pets? Lots of answers needed.?
I was looking on petfinder.com (wanting to adopt a rat) when I saw the word "Degu". They are so cute, but I just found out about them. Does anyone have one as a pet? Please help with the following questions...
1.Are they good as pets?
2.Can they be held and cuddled with?
3. Do they bite or can they be tamed easily?
4. I want to rescue or adopt one. Anyone know of any rescue groups around the Dallas, Tx area?
5.Do they require a special temperature like Chinchillas do?
6.Are they better than Rats?
7.Do they require anything special?
8.Do they get diseases easily?
9.Whats the bad and good things about these creatures?
Thanks for all your help! Any extra info I need to know about these little guys are most appreciated. Any websites to will help me a ton!
Answers:
1. Yes, they are good pets
2. Yes, they can be held, but it might take awile to get them to trust you
3. They don't usually bite, but they might run away from you at first
4. They're still fairly new to the pet world and aren't usually available to rescue or adopt, if you really want some (you have to get at least two they are VERY social animals) you'd probably have to go through a breeder
5. They're not as picky about temperature as chinchillas are.
6. I personally think they're better than rats, but that's a matter of opinion
7. They take dust baths like chinchillas and you have to be fairly careful about what you feed them. You want to stay away from fruits and any sugars because
8. They're prone to diabetes. And just like any rodent in captivity they could have teeth problems
9. I think that they make good pets, but since they're so new to the pet world it's hard to find information about them and we still don't know their dietary requirements, lots of vets wouldn't necessarily know what to do with one if you brought one in. You might want to wait a few years and see what happens they might become more available and more popular which will then increase research and education about them.
Please remember, you can't just get one degu. The only exception is if maybe you were to rescue one from a shelter and it was older and had always been kept alone. If you decide to do this remember it will require a lot of attention. As far as it's concerned YOU are the other degu.
no there just like rats except there not so jumpy and climby but they look better and alot calmer.(they are probly good boa food)
1. Yes, if you care for them properly, like large gerbils.
2. They can be held, but like most small rodents they don't much like being cuddled.
3. All small rodents, except for possibly rats will give the occasional nip, it hurts like getting your finger pricked when sewing, so not a big deal, can be a shock though. Apart from that, if you play with them regularly (at least twice a week) they will be very tame.
4. They're considered exotic in most places so uncommon at rescues, but by all means ring around, there may be some, just be warned that it's not all that likely.
5. Chinchillas don't need a special temperature, they need protection from direct sunlight, it's probably best practice not to put any animal in direct sunlight, but apart from that no.
6. They're different, no animal is 'better' than any other.
I'm leaving 7, 8 and 9 because they're opinion not fact.
If you really want a degu you're going to need to educate yourself using other things than petqna.com . Please go out and buy a good book and read it right through to decide if degus are the best pet for you.
On a final note, please remember these are social animals, and you're going to be wanting a single sex pair, they don't do well alone.

Are dalmations good dogs?
I am thinking about getting a dalmation from my local humane society, Could someone give me a website or something with some info?
Many Thanks
God Bless.
Answers:
Yes, dalmations are wonderful dogs. The dalmation is an active, energetic dog that enjoys lots of exercise. Dalmations are people-like and people-oriented and they do best when given the opportunity to spend lots of time with and around their families. They're rather sensitive, too. If a Dalmation is what you're craving for, be prepared to make him part of your life, both indoor and outdoor. Dalmations love to play, and play, and play! As most Dalmations, they don't get tired very easily, but a lot of play will help. Dalmatians shed lots of hair year-round. Their stiff, short hairs cling to most surfaces and weave their way into fabrics making them difficult to remove. Shedding can be reduced by giving the dog a brisk five minute daily brushing outdoors. Dalmatians are natural dogs, cat-like in cleanliness and free of doggy odor. Their toenails should be kept trimmed, as they grow rapidly. Long nails are understandably uncomfortable for any dog. Dals may object to having their nails trimmed, unless they are trained early. But it must be done.
Frequent brushing helps to keep them clean without disturbing their protective skin oils. During their daily brushing, check eyes and ears for irritation. Also, during warm weather, check for fleas and ticks while outdoors. Frequent bathing, especially with harsh soaps can lead to dry skin and skin problems in Dalmatians. Most Dals clean up well with a damp towel or the use of a plain gentle soap. Be sure to rinse very well, as soapy residue will irritate the skin. Ask your vet to show you how to empty the anal sacks. This procedure should be done whenever you bathe your Dalmatian in order to avoid infection. About food for your Dalmation, it's pretty simple. There are as many brand preferences as there are Dalmatian breeders, but there are some generalizations that can be made. The authors and other breeders have had good success with premium dry type foods (Pro Plan, Nutro, Eagle, Purina ONE, Natures Recipe, etc.) because they contain high quality ingredients like real meats instead of meat meal and because they minimize the amount of purines, corn meal, soy meal, meat by-products and preservatives. The dog seems to make better use of the premium brand foods, therefore generating less fecal waste. Dalmatians do not generally require canned dog food, however, it is sometimes useful in encouraging the finicky eater. Do not feed your Dalmatian foods with "cute" colors and shapes as these require additives that may cause or aggravate skin allergy conditions. Further information on food choices may be found in the medical problems section under the discussion of the unique urinary characteristics of the Dalmatian Breed. Please feel free to share your food success stories with us, especially if you live in a country other then the United States. Dalmatians usually eat very quickly and most seem to be always hungry, and as a result do not do well with self-feeding. This can lead to overweight dogs with higher incidences of medical problems later in life. Adult Dals should be fed either once or twice (preferred) a day, from 3 to 6 cups total, depending on their weight and activity level. Some adult females do well on as little as 2 cups of food per day. Most puppies do better with 3-4 smaller daily servings.
Your breeder should tell you how often %26 how much they were feeding when you pick up your puppy.

i had a dalmation for 14 years, and they are wonderful dogs...they have lots of energy, and need to be walked frequently...also if they get bored they will tear up your yard, or your couch, or in my case, the hall door...obedience training will help lots...glad to hear you are adopting a dog from your local shelter...save a life!

Any dog can be a great dog - without exception. What tends to determine this is how it has been reared and treated. So try and get as much history about the dog as possible and if there is , say, a history of neglect or abuse - be prepared for lot f patience, understanding and TLC. As with humna relationships, trust is the most vital component.
Remember dogs are sentient beings and they need their own space, regularity and security, love, excercise and a feeling of being wanted and useful. You do these things and you can't go wrong!!
good for you for going to a shelter!!
Dalmations are excellent pets. They do require interaction to keep them from being bored. So, be sure to walk your new friend daily, be sure to teach it basic commands, and above all else give it plenty of (pet and play) attention. If you do this you will have an excellent devoted friend that will love you for the rest of its life.
I always get my pets from the local shelter and I've never regretted it. Good luck!!
In my opinion, all dogs are good dogs. But that's just me.
I think it is great that you want to adopt a dog! That's just great! Dalmations get to be pretty big, and are usually kind of hyper. They require 1 on 1 time, just like most dogs. Just visit the sites that the others gave you and you'll be ready to make your decision! I hope I helped a little bit!

Are daffodils poisonous to horses?
Answers:
The bulbs if eaten is toxic to horses in large quantities. Signs of daffodil poisoning is bloody feces, walking unevenly, like staggering almost but not falling down. Jaundice can occur and they can cause death. A well fed horse, however rarely will purposely eat poisonous plants. Starving ones will.
Not that I know of.I have seen horses rolling around in daffodils(at school trips to farms.).
Yes they are poisonous if consuming enough of it. Basicaly they would have to live in a dandelion field with nothing but. Horses will munch on them but prefer grass and thats why they are rarely at risk of eating to many.

Are chipmunk pets legal?
Answers:
It depends on where you live. In the US, some states ban the ownership of chipmunks. If you live in a state where it is legal, it must be purchased from a pet store or breeder. All states ban the ownership of captured wild animals.
It all depends on where you live. My grandpa used to have one.
no mto outside, but yes to inside.
NO they are not leagl to own. .. get a cat..
Chipmunks are legal even my great-grandfather had one when he was a kid. I have always wanted one because its really hard to find. All tough if you have found one then sure why not! and hey why would they be illegal!

Are chinchillas wild or are they gineticly created by scientist? If they are created, what animal combination?
Answers:
Chinchillas come from Chile. They started off in the 1500s as being sold for fur and later (much later) became popular pets.
http://members.aol.com/sirchin/chinhist.
they are wild, but now most are farmed for their fur
Chinchillas come from the Andes, of South America it is a fact. They're not created by scientists, though breeders do mutate their fur into different colors by mating them with other chinchilla colors, but chinchillas are from the Andes, and come from the class of mammalia. ^ ^
Chinchillas are from the Andes mountains in South America. only a dozen or so were brought to North America after they were first discovered by a north american explorer. in the wild they will eat wild grasses and drink dew off plants. they are currently classified as rodents, though it is being constested by some experts.
in captivity, chinchillas are bred for certian colors that would be much less frequent naturally, such as black velvet chinchillas...these colors are the more expensive. the standard color for a chinchilla is a medium brownish-gray. it takes about 120 chinchillas to make a fur coat, which have thankfully decresed in popularity in favor of synthetic fur.
Are chinchillas legal?
I have some workmates from the USA who believe that it is illegal to buy chinchillas (as pets) over here in the UK, does anyone know if this is true and if it is - why? And also - are they illegal in the US as this seems quite a crazy law if so.
Answers:
Ha! What a funny remark! I live in the UK and have 3 happy chins! It is NOT illegal whatsoever! If it was then that would be very weird.! There are also not illegal in the US.
In most countries the legal age to consider as a adult is 21.So long as the chinchillas is 21.It legal.
I don't know about the UK, but I know that they quite legal in the US. So it would be my guess that they would also be legal in the UK.
I am going to say yes.I am 20 and a few years ago my mom bought 2 chinchillas and we actually got more because one was pregnant. Although they may be close to endangered species, that is because poachers hunt for their fur, but they are still available to buy in pet stores.
If they are illegal then I'm breaking the law 7 times over! No they are not illegal here and are common sights in pet shops. They are not illegal in the US either.
They are legal in the UK, here's the website to The National Chinchilla Society (UK): http://www.natchinsoc.co.uk/ (which wouldn't exist unless they were legal :P ).
They are illegal here in Australia though... *grumble*
Yeah of course!

Are chinchillas good pets?
are chinchillas good pets to have? and why?
Answers:
i love chichillas. they are a lot like rabbits so do some research on google. they make great pets and are VERY soft.
No, they are very, very aggressive, even with each other.
Chinchillas are ok as pets, but they are nocturnal,so come to life at night time, they also chew everything that they can....
If you have children NO
Because, Chinchillas are naturally skittish. They also have delicate bones and generally do not like to be held. Because of this they are not considered to be good pets for small children.
If you don't have little children YES
Chinchillas live for around 15 years, but some have been known to live up to 20 or more.
Chinchillas make many noises, including barks, chirps, and squeaks. They use this variety of vocalisations to express themselves, from a calm, loving chirp given to a potential mate to a loud, aggressive bark when spooked.
Well, it matters on what type of person you are. You can only have one and they get quite large. They also can live for up to15 years, so you have to be dedicated. I think they are good though
Chinchillas make great pets. Unlike other small animals, the chinchilla's lifespan is about fifteen years. That's great for the people that really get attached to their small pets. Chinchillas are small creatures, and can easily be kept in smaller spaces. Your child, sibling, or whoever can have years of enjoyment from them. Caring for chinchillas is relatively easy, as well. You can get a cage for them and use woodchips, as you would for other small caged animals. You can also, let your chinchilla out of the cage, but be careful to watch them as they love to hide and can be difficult to find! One of the other nice aspects about pet chinchillas is the fact that they sleep during the day, making them nice pets for children who can play with them when they get home from school in the afternoon, or for adults who work during the day. Pet chinchilla's are fun to play with. They can be housetrained, too, although it might be difficult, so watch them if they are out of their house. Also be sure to keep them away from dogs and cats. They are excellent pets for apartments that don't allow larger animals, too. Chinchillas are generally clean animals, but they do need some grooming in the form of dust baths to keep their fur nice and soft. Chinchilla dust is available at most pet stores or through your veterinarian's office. Let your chinchilla enjoy a dust bath a few times a week. Be sure to follow the directions on the label, but it's quite easy. As for more aesthetic grooming, you can get special combs at the pet store for your chinchilla. When you get your pet chinchilla, it's best to get a young one, so you have a chance to let your chinchilla get accustomed to being held. They might nip if you scare them, so acclimatize them to their new home and their new owner as soon as possible. They are soft and cuddly, and when you start interacting with them early, you'll have a loyal pet that will bring you years and years of enjoyment. For the young or old, a chinchilla makes a wonderful pet, that is easy to care for, and will be a friend for a long time.
if you could get one they would.

Are chinchillas good pets do they bond with their owners?
Answers:
chinchillas are incredibly curious and friendly, they can't resist smelling and jumping on their owners. while they'll never really respond to their name as a dog would, they will respond to certian sounds - i "call" my chinchilla by shaking a box of rasins, so she'll hop over to get a treat.
Since they are rodent-like, they will bond like a rabbit, but not like a dog or cat. Cats only bond in the way that they're getting something. If they are fed by someone else and not by you, they'll simply leave and go where the food is. Dogs are pack animals (as are humans) so they show a similar level of emotion, and they will become devoted to the family. Chinchillas do not have the intelligence of a hunting animal, but could still make a good family pet.
yes they are excellent pets. they can somewhat bond with their owner (kinda like a rabbit does). they do take alot of care, and poop alot, but it doesnt smell. you can also teach them to use a litterbox if you let them roam around. they do need to take "dust baths" though. also, chinchillas can be very expensive. some stores may sell them for around $200, but im sure you can find some around $100. but overall, chinchillas are excellent pets
yes chinchillas are lovely pets that bond with their owners, but you have to gain its trust, and this can take up to a couple of months. They need peace and quiet to sleep, so dont always try to handel one if it hasnt gained your trust. So yes. thats my answer.
Are chinchillas expensive?
will all the supplies cost a lot, do they need a big cage , do they smell, and should i start out with buying a baby or an adult
Answers:
you can find chinchillas for $60-200, depdning on the bredder. the cage needs to be a bit bigger than a rabiit cage, good ones are usually sound $100.
you'll need ledges for the chinchilla to hop on, as well as a house for them to sleep in, and some toys, which will be around $50.
you need to give your chinchilla hay and sand to roll in, which would cost about $15 each month per chinchilla.
i got my chinchilla when she was 4 months old, which is when they technically become an adult, and she's been great. if you get a chin that is too old it may be stubborn and more prone to biting you, but babies can also be not willing to train if they're too young.
find any local breeders, pet stopres, or rescues near you that have chinchillas and seeif you can play with one for a while and ask the staff questions before you decide if a chinchilla is right for you. they live 10-20 years, so it's a big decision!
They do need a big cage, but I would think to get everything you need plus chinchilla you might be looking at about $300. They are a lot of fun and really cute. I had a male chinchilla and he was very friendly and would sit on my shoulder as I walked around the house.
i have a chinchilla and.
the cage does need to be big...that cost a lot.
food and stuff to sleep and play in aren't that much.
they don't smell.
and it really doesn't matter what you start off with an adult or a baby.
which ever you like the best.
good luck.
can you help me with my problem too.
thanks.
You shouldnt get either until you learn more about them.
Thats like a mom adopting a baby and knowing nothin' about them.
You should educate yourself more on them
before you get one...
so it can get the care it deserves
Yes, to all of the above. They need a reasonably sized cage, mine is in a wire 2x3 cage. Wire is what I and most people suggested, this way that can't gnaw their way out of the cage. Chins themselves aren't cheap. The food and dust bath you 'll need for them aren't either! Just for a 2 lb bag I pay almost $5-6! They don't stink and they are reasonably quiet. They are nocturnal, so they do squeak a little bit at night sometimes... If you want to be able to handle your chin a lot, i recommend getting a baby. Adults are already set in their stubborn ways and have a bigger potential of biting! They are great pets and SOOOO soft!! enjoy if you get one!!
yes they are.I would look and find alot of information on the web or from books before getting a chinchilla or chinchillas.

Are cats or dogs smarter?
I think they are both very smart. Cats are trained to know that they go to the bathroom in the litter box, they clean themselves, and they come when you call their name and when you snap your fingers. (dogs too) Dogs are smart because they can fetch, and sit when you tell them to and my Aunt's goes to the woods to poop when my Aunt says ''Go fetch the stick.'' I also have a cat and a kitten and they're pretty well behaved. So what do you guys think?
Answers:
Cats. If they want to they cat be trained. Mine know how to sit, stay, come, lay down, roll over, shake, and stand. Cats know that they don't have to do what you tell them to do and they have no reason to do it unless they get something out of it. That's my opinion. :)
I think it depends on the animal. There are some really stupid cats and some really smart dogs and visa versa. Generally, I believe cats are thought of as more intelligent because they are more cunning. If you're talking about intelligent because they are trainable then dogs might be considered smarter because they tend to be more loyal. I have a cat and a dog and I couldn't tell you which is smarter because they both have their moments!
In the cartoon world, dogs and cats are natural enemies. In that two-dimensional universe, cats are smarter than dogs, and the humans all have three fingers and a thumb. You can't use the cartoon world to determine which are smarter, cats or dogs. In my house, which is inhabited by 3 cats and 2 dogs, I would have to say that the dog is the smarter creature. It's an important question, though, one that Cat People and Dog People have debated forever. If you're a Cat Person, you know that cats are smarter because they're independent and clean, and they have an uncanny sense of where they are and how to get home. If you're a Dog Person, you know that dogs are smarter because they're easier to train. In fact, dogs are so smart, they sometimes even wear police badges and perform important jobs for people with disabilities, among other things. In my opinion, my close and personal opinion, I'd say it totally depends on the breed, behavior, temper, as not all cats and dogs are the same breed, of course.
I'm not sure, but if I were to make an educated guess, I would say cats, because they are more patient and observant than dogs.
i think the are both smart ! to tell u

Are cats more evolved then people?
They are much better looking than people, even old cats are pretty.
They sleep 18 hours a day, don't have to work, poop in a sand box maintained by a human.
If they are allowed outside they get to hunt for the fun of it and can play with whatever, coming inside if it becomes cold or starts raining, or if hungry.
Cats allow humans to take care of them and allow humans to pet them, giving only a purring sound in return.
If a cat is unhappy with the treatment it recieves at home they can pick up and leave, finding a widow to lavish them( It happened to me).
Cats are intelligent, urbane , suave and do almost everything with finese.
Except maybe that cleaning the butt thing with the leg straight up in the air.
Dogs aren't in the same category, not even close.
If I believed in evolution I'd say cats are at the top of the heap.
Do you agree?
Answers:
Duh, didn't you know that we are there slaves, and they are so intelligent that they let us think we are in charge.
I agree though. Cats are very clever creatures, who seem to know a lot more than they let on.
Many of you are taking this question WAY too seriously. C'mon people it is a joke.
CATS are GROSS
They are not, but they think they are. Want proof? They lick their own butts and cough up hairballs!
id also agree cats have it sorted !
ahahhaah wtf
no.. they are not evolving as fast as humans.. If they evolved any faster then we would have called it mutating...
no
LOL, good points. I agree.
And cats are actually on the top of the heap...haven't you ever seen The Lion King?
I agree its time for your meds
No, mine aren't. My female gets mad if I'm not around her 24/7 and pees in the corner by the door so guests can be greeted with the wonderful pee d'ior odor. My male thinks he's a dog and loves to play catch.
I don't like cats.
dogs rules!
and they make soooo many tools to help themselves when they're not living off someone.
the answer this question deserves: oh, please.
I agree!
humans are #1, not all cats are so lucky as your discription.
I'd have to say no. They are much more evolved as far as hunting but as a human you should know that we are by far the most evolved creature in the world. Our brains are unmatched. We are the top of the food chain. We have the power to destroy the whole world and we are doing it which does make me think we aren't as evolved as we think. I have to admit though, a cat's life is the good life. Especially mine!
Not really, if you saw how many of them are euthanized in kill shelters every year, you wouldn't think cats are so lucky or evolved.
Feral cats roaming the streets have an average life span of 3 years - you are only talking about the lucky ones who have good homes. That's why we all need to spay and neuter our cats, to cut down on the overpopulation.
Same with dogs.
Of course they are more evolved than people.
I mean when was the last time you saw a human walk on it's hind legs and vocally communicate in a way that almost every living thing can understand!?
When was the last time you saw a human, drive, work, cook, spell, talk, get dressed, etc...
You have WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS!
seek help now, and come back to the human world.
Not if you are talking about the common, horrible, scratching, butt-ugly house-hold "pet" cat. Evil things, uncaring, unloving, unloyal. Horrid things. Not too good with cars either.
Now BIG cats are a different story. They are truly amazing animals and perfect apex predators in their natural environments. They are very close to the top.... house cats are right at the bottom among the slugs, worms and Man U supporters
no.
if they were smarter and more evolved why would they allow us to fix them?
I agree. There is one universal law known by all cats and adhered to without exception:
Don't ever, ever, let humans know we can talk.
Next thing you know they'll stick us inside a cubicle writing legal contracts for the ASPCA. No way. And there's nothing wrong with cleaning one's butt with a leg straight up. If humans could reach their genitals with their own mouths that's all they'd ever do.
Cats are not more evolved than people, they have tiny brains.
Please get out of the house and meet some people, your getting weird.
You have a bunch of good points there, but I am a lover of cats, I always have been. They are quite on top of the line, but can they do we do? Build bridges, do math, question the start of the universe? I think not, but you have to admit, cats are adorable yet sneaky.
And cats do live very long for their line. 21 years or more! Gosh by golly, it's all because of sleeping and living the dolce vita. Maybe we can learn from them.
But I still love them with all my heart.
They lick their testicles, and anuses. They spit up large balls of fer coated with infectous mucus. They are vindictive and do nasty things behind the backs of their owners, like, crap in house plants. they are extremely rude and obnoxious when a female is in heat. They sleep on your face and inhibit breathing.
Until they learn better, they scratch up and ruin fabric covered items in the home...such as stereo speakers.
Because they are nocturnal, night animals, they choose this time to be most schizoid. They scratch wood furniture too. And many others.
If you want to tell it, tell it all.
No, they are lower than humans and always will be.
I agree 150%... I have often said something like this.
My cats have the BEST life. I only wish I could live like them.
And cats can go for days without meowing, yet they know what the other cats are going to do next..they seem to converse telepathically..so yeah way more evolved!
As for dogs..they are just well...SPECIAL,...if you get what I mean.. They require sooo much work and time. And cant do much for themselves.
I do agree with you but i have to disagree with the dog thing...
if you were watching from like space or something and saw a person walking their dog... the dog take a crap... then the human bend over to pick it up u tell me who is in charge? lol
The cats' race started at about the same time as the humans' so were almost entirely equally evolved. Cats are intelligent and use humans to there advantage. Also cats are not gross, they are one of the cleanest animals on the planet.
Cats don't groom there butt, fore there's no fur there and it's gross (they lick there hind legs).
All the way yes, yes, yes. You mentioned the leg in the air bit (I just got thrill thinking about it).. how often are you tempted to squeeze it or hold it.. just to tick the cat off. My favorite animal of all time... any feline creature will do.
Cats are the brightest creatures in the world. See how they have made many of us into their personal slaves without as much as a hiss. Now, this goes back to the time when the fellows in Egypt were building those heaps of stone all over the place. Man, they even have pussycats embalmed with the kings - shows how important they were in the scheme of things even then - makes you think does it not.
They are so independent - if my main cat (female) is hungry and I don't feed her on time she will go over to my neighbor (another sucker) for her supper. They know exactly who they can manipulate into doing their will.
I am a cat person and will be till the day I die.

Are blue eyed horses frowned upon in the hunter ring?
I'm thinking of purchasing a blue eyed paint gelding for an A circuit hunter. Will he be discriminated against by judges?
Answers:
From what I understand, it is believed that a horse with blue eyes is more susceptible to health problems like blindness. I'm not sure I believe this is true, but I don't think they can be discriminated against in competition. Your horse may be scrutinized to make sure that he is sound. Assuming he is, I know of no competition that would disqualify a horse based on the color of his eyes
My first pony that I showed the hunter circuit with had one blue eye and one brown eye. Won a division on the state circuit every year, qualified for finals etc. No, they don't care and I know MANY blue eyed horses and not one of them have health problems.

Are animal clippers any different than human clippers?
Hi. I have a few animals and out of the few, I get my dog clipped/groomed (lab, shepard, chow mix). I also have a cat, is it ok to clip a cat? I adopted my older cat and he has constant hair ball coughing fits. I tried special food and other tricks but nothing worked, so I am thinking now that maybe I should cut his hair too (he is a long haired cat).
I have a cheap pair of conair electric clippers (for people) and it died out while using it on my dog. The clippers are old so I'm wondering if they just stopped working because they were old or is it because you just cant do long animal hair/fur with human clippers? I would like to do this myself because it would save me $50 for each animal. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Answers:
yes they are the same. they only call them animal clippers at the pet stores and other places so they can charge you more.
Clippers used for animals, horses specifically, tend to be quieter running so as not to spook or frighten the animal. There's not really a huge difference, but I would invest in some clippers intended for animals, expecially since it sounds like your current one just died.
It's perfectly fine to clip a cat. Many people with long haired cats clip them to avoid mats and to keep them cool in hot weather.
HUMAN CLIPPERS WOULDN,T EVEN GO THROUGH MY DOGS COAT,AT LEAST WITH MY DOGGY CLIPPERS YOU GET SPECIAL COMBS FOR AROUND EYES%26lt;EARS>BACKSIDE + HIS BALLS.
Old clippers belong in the trash. They will only pull the fur and hurt the animal. Yes you can use human clippers on dogs but please buy new ones and keep it cleaned and sharp. If the dogs hair is that long, first try using scissors first and then the clippers. Cat clippers. LOL no no really. Why not try to comb or brush more often. That will help with hairballs. Also there is a supplement that you can add to her food to keep the hairball problem to a minimum. Good luck
To be able to cut pets hair well, you've got to buy clippers that are over $30.
I clip my goats for show. I got a pair of pet clippers at walmart for only $30. Your clippers might of quit working b/c they overheated. With animals you need to get something called blade ice. you can get it at tractor supply for about $6. it lasts forever. dont use people clippers on pets. They can be loud and can spook them. Spray the clipper blade when it gets hot. With my goats, usually ever 45 secs. to min. Hope it helps. P.S I like the Wahl brand or Oster.
How about GROOMING the cat? There's no need to cut a cat's fur if you keep it groomed. Get a steel toothed comb and comb out the loose undercoat. The more you comb, the less hair that'll come out. Once you get it under control you can go several days without combing. Also get the cat a hairball remedy or a dab of Vaseline that will help ease out any hairballs.
As for electric clippers I would think animal fur is much thicker than human hair so yes it'd probably burn it out. http://www.drsfostersmithcom.com... has quite affordable grooming supplies. I've never heard of someone clipping a German Shepherd or Lab, though. You probably just need to brush and comb them as well.
They are different. Human clippers (or so I find) tend to drag on animal fur/hair rather than cutting through it properly. While you don't need professional quality clippers, avoid the cheap ones- the blades blunt in no time and the darn things frequently don't work well in the first place. And I'm guessing that as your dog has shepherd and chow, s/he probably has a pretty long, thick coat?
Do you brush your cat regularly to remove all his loose fur? In theory, there's no reason why you can't clip him too, but it may prove much harder in practice!

Are all people out there against skunks!?
Whenever there is a question on skunks, people seem to spam it with things such as skunks smell and why would you want one, they don't belong here.
Does anyone out here actually understand these creatures and love them as much as I do?

I had the most wonderful Kindergarten teacher. One day after recess we came back into the classroom to find a great big box in front of the classroom. We could just barely see over the edge into it. There were towels in it. We could see something else was in it, too. Something alive!
My teacher didn't say a word about the box. She just let us talk amongst ourselves trying to figure out what was in the box.
Then our teacher had us settle down back at our desks. She explained that what was in the box was her pet. She had us share our guesses as to what it might be. Some said it was a kitten. Others a puppy. Most thought it had to be a kitten.
Then she revealed to us that her pet was a skunk! We were thrilled but a little confused as to why it didn't smell bad. She explained to us that it had an operation where the scent glands were removed. I thought that she must have had the coolest pet ever!
That was 31 years ago and I remember it as if it were yesterday. What a cool teacher. What a cool pet!
i have nothing against skunks, and i understand what you are going through. when i had my 2 little ferrets, everytime i asked a question there would be atleast one idiot who(no matter what the question was) would say "ferrets smell"
it drives me crazy, i think skunks and ferrets are cute! i've never had a skunk before, i just never really thought about having one, but they're probably like ferrets in a way :)
I wouldn't mind a skunk as a pet.
I don't think they're just little ugly creature that stink up everything! I think they're cute, and I really don't mind their smell at all! I'm sad to see a dead one on the side of the road. =[
i have never personally owned a skunk, but i used to know a family that had an albino and a black and white. they were sooo cute and friendly. they remind me of a mischievous cat actually. so they have a distinct smell even if descented but that shouldn't matter. all animals have distinct smells and people still get them.
Well i happen to think they are cool. They only spray in self defense. They start off with a series of cartwheels which i bet look pretty funny! That is their first line of defense if this does not scare off their predators they then spray. (My mom actually thinks it smells good.) I don't mind the smell, in fact when we visit the Adirondacks it blends with the smell of the pine and it carries many memories. I do agree with you, skunks are really cut looking, like a cross between a cat and a ferret. But as a pet? They are wild animals and they deserve your respect, so do not domesticate them out of respect for the animal and nature!
I'm biased against them unfortunately. I had to put my dog to sleep because of a rabid skunk. Skunks, especially rabid ones, are super common in my area. In combination with that and my state's crazy laws regarding exposure to rabies.there are lots of people who have lost pets because of skunks. (raccoons too).
Sorry no information because i'll only get a violation
I do! We don't have them available for pets in Ontario, plus my parents would never let me. When i'm older I'll probably have one. Skunks smell bad but it's not as bad as a fart or something so I don't know hwy people criticize them so much.
im not against them thats their form of protection, but they are wild animals and i ve never heard of anyone having one as a pet thats all .
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!I'm against the smell but not the animal.Skunks are cute REEEEEEEEALLYcute!
i dont understand them they do stink but they sure are beautiful
I've never had a personal experience with a skunk but I've heard they make great pets..I'd have one. The reason people comment that they're a bit like ferrets is because they are actually related to ferrets and I know with my ferrets if they are excited or frightened they will let off a stink bomb but its not really that bad and disappears quickly. Skunks and ferrets have a bad reputation because people don't understand them if more people gave them a chance they would see what brilliant affectionate pets they do make.
do you mean men?
I think they are cute..men and skunks.
When you take the stink sack out of a skunk, you have one of the gentelest and fun loving animals alive..
I think they are amazing little creatures. I would love to have one as a pet. Yes, they can smell, but only if they're scarred or you treat them bad. They are so damn cute.
Well I guess a hand reared one would be about as tame as a cat, but even then how do you stop it using its natural defences when it gets startled, this does rather stop them being a good house pet.
Does anyone out here actually understand these creatures and love them as much as I do?

Are bunnys great pets?
my dad says no so we cant git one but i say yes! what do you say?
Answers:
It depends on what type of pet you're looking for.
Rabbits shed a TON. The cage will smell no matter how many times you clean it. And as soon as it's clean there will be fifty more turds in it. They LOVE to gnaw on things, so if you let it loose in the house you're gonna have some major probs until it's trained realllllly well.
I had a rabbit for ten yrs. We got him when I was four yrs old. My brother was seven, and my sister three. We have around 28 cousins. The rabbit was our only pet when we were younger. Now imagine what that poor rabbit went through when we had family parties at our house. -.-; Yeah. Poor Clover.
He really was INCREDIBLY patient with us and allowed us to carry him all around, passed from one little kid to the next. The thing I think was good though is: he wasn't afraid to bite. If we crossed a limit, he'd simply bite. I've still got a scar on my hand. Worst animal bite I've ever experienced! (and that's saying something!) But looking back, it was good for us to have a pet that would defend itself if we went too far.
Now Clover is the only rabbit I ever had; he lived ten long yrs. The vet was shocked when we brought him in. He was like: "this rabbit isn't neutered! I'm surprised at how calm he is. I give him an 'A' in behavior. This rabbit has cataracts! I've never seen a rabbit with cataracts!...I've never seen a rabbit this old." LOL Then he had some fellow nurses and such come in to pet and oogle at our old bun bun. -wistful sigh- Sadly, old age took its toll, and six months later we put Clovey down.
Rabbits generally like to wander around. They won't play with you like cats or dogs do. They each have unique attitudes. Take some of Clover's: we'd try to pet or pick him up and he'd kick and wiggle away from us. After we'd give up and leave him alone he'd hop over and nudge our hands insistently, demanding to be petted. Crazy rabbit.
As a household pet, things can get messy. He liked to hide behind the couch and chew the carpet. Chewed anything he could reach. (we usually only let him run around outside) The smell and shedding are, in my opinion, the major downsides to rabbits.
Respect your dad's decision if you can't sway him otherwise. It's his house. I can understand his view of not wanting rabbit hair all over the house.
Their wonderful pets!
And, they do things that are called 'binkies' where they flip in the air*sideways*(it will probably one of the funniest things you've ever seen an animal do lol)
Yes! They're wonderful.
At first before I got mine I wasn't really sure if I should get one since they kinda seemed boring to me. But I'm so glad I did! They're really sweet and cute.
yes they are great pets. it depends if you can take care of them.
absolutly, best pet i ever had. very playful and cute
Rabbits make great pets however, they are believe it or not more work to look after than cats and dogs! Handling techniques are very important and they must be kept on a strict pallet only diet. They can have the occasional peice of fruit or vegetable but too many vegetables cause chronic diarrhoea which can lead to fly strike, a nasty invasion of maggots around the bottom and anal area which eats away at the skin. I see it a lot in summer time and it causes them excruciating pain and leads to further diseases and infections if left alone. Also when the diarrhoea kicks in they get dehydrated extrmely fast and their health deteriorates simultaniously. I don't mean to make them sound horrible pets as they are far from this, just after what i see of neglected rabbits in practice i can't stress enough the time it takes each day to keep them happy and healthy.
On the whole they make lovely pets, easily potty trained and very loyal. With day to day care and a good balanced pallet diet they make great pets.
They are great pets as long as you do your research and know what to expect. They do take quite a bit of time and effort to take care of...cleaning, bunny proofing the house, giving them lots of out-of-cage time to play and exercise, etc. But they are a joy to have around. Each rabbit has its own personality, and they can be very comical and also really sweet. Not all of them like to be held, but most love to be petted and will nudge you with their noses for attention.
Rabbits can be litter trained and are very clean animals (they groom themselves like cats), so as long as you change the litter box every day or two, they will not smell.
Maybe one day, you can get a rabbit of your own. For now, just learn about them so you'll be prepared for if and when that day comes. I had to wait until I was an adult and had my own house, and it was worth it. :)
I say you obey your father!
I have a rabbit and I love him dearly, and wouldn't change it for the world. But they can be a nuisnance to a father who hates them and has a child that won't listen.
