Bonding with my chinnnie + questions?

ok so my chinchilla is now three years old and she
knows her name ( elmo) she likes when i hand feed her apples and raisins and such... but it doesnt seem like we really connect and bond. when i call her name she will hope up and look at me and sometimes she will run up to me other times she just zooms around the house ( which i let her do) i lock the cats up in a room ... but how can i make her trust me?? its kinda hard to get her out of the cage sometimes and sometimes she wont let me pick her up from running around the house and i have to chase her and other times she nevver wants to come out of her cage ( she is very territoral when anything besides me is in the room) so i want to connect with her better, how can i do so??
and..
what is a good way to cool a chinchilla down??
like an icepack, or a fan??
and what are some snacks that chins like besides raisins?
thnx so much and sorry this is so long.. and sorry about how i ramble on and on,...
Answers:
You describe normal chinchilla behavior.
They aren't cuddly.
They have no interest in sitting with you unless you have food. They grab the food and leave.
They're much more interested in running around "doing their own thing" and playing.
The temperature in the room should remain constant. Cool them down with frozen water bottles.
Raisins seem to be a favorite.
Try other dried fruits/freeze dried fruits.
It takes time for your chinnie to get use to you, I don鈥檛 know how long you have had her for, but the bonding process can take a long time. Try putting your arm in the cage and see if she will crawl out onto youand talk to her softly and just let her come to you. Make sure you chin proof the room and just leave your chinnie鈥檚 cage door open so she can come out feely. Don鈥檛 ever chase your chin she won鈥檛 trust you anymore and she could become over heated. If you can鈥檛 get her back in to the cage try putting her sand bath down wait till she gets in and pick her up and put her back in the cage. Last resort is to throw a blanket over her and gently pick her up and put her back in the cage. As for cooling try getting a chin chiller at www.chinworld.com. The temperature should be no more that 75 degrees, however I keep my a/c on 70 at all times. I recommend getting a thermo/hygro meter this will tell you the temperature and the humidity. Multiplying the temp and humidity it should NOT equal over 130. A fan will not help for chins do not sweat. Feed treats in moderation 2-3x a week.
